"You know it's bad luck for you to see me on our wedding day." Star protested, pushing her fiancée out of the doorway of her childhood bedroom.
"Oh please, I'm not going to wait a whole day without seeing you." Marco protested, kissing her cheek.
"Stop it, dork. You're gonna smear my makeup and my mom's gonna be mad." Star replied, pushing him out for a final time. "You'd better leave before she finds you 'conversing with the bride'."
"Fine, fine, I'll see you later, okay?" Marco said, trudging away in a faux depressed manner. "All those hours...how will I live?"
"I'm sure you'll figure it out." Star said, closing the door, which opened again within a minute.
"Star, darling, how about this one?" Queen Butterfly asked, and Star shook her head violently at potentially the most ugly dress she'd ever seen.
"Mom, I'm twenty-five. I can pick out my own dress." Star said. "I already have one."
"Oh?" her mother asked. "Try it on, dear."
Star groaned, walking as if she had lead feet over to her closet and opening the door with a swish of her wand, the dress coming right to her hand. She tapped her wand to it, putting it on her body.
"Star Butterfly!" her mother exclaimed. "Absolutely not. A queen must not dress like...like some Earth fraternity girl!"
"Mom, fraternities are for GUYS. Sororities are for girls." Star said. "And I like it."
"I will not have my daughter get married wearing such a short dress!"
"MOM! It's my wedding! For Mewni's sake just let me handle my dress!" Star began to shout. Her mother placed a finger to her lips.
"A queen must not shout, Star."
"MOOOOOOOOOOM." Star groaned as if she was still a young teenager.
"Or groan, dear."
"Can I yawn?" Star asked, letting out a long yawn and stretching out her shoulders.
"Of course not. It is not ladylike." her mother replied as if it were obvious. "Now for the sake of Mewni change your dress to something more...appropriate."
"Bye Mom." Star said, opening the door with magic.
"It's not that I don't think you're incapable of making decisions, Star, I just believe I can help you make more...queenly decisions."
"Like wearing a yellow flowery wedding cake around my waist." Star grumbled. "A queen must not speak under her breath."
"Mom, please, just for the one day, can you stop telling me how I'm failing as a queen?" Star asked, tapping her dress a few times with her wand, pink sparks flying everywhere. "This better?"
"Much." her mother stated. "Good Glossaryck, Star, I can't believe you let your hair grow so long."
"MOM!" Star said as she freed her hair from the bun it was currently in.
"It's unsanitary, d- I...excuse me, this is a difficult task."
Star ran a brush through her waist-long hair. "It'll get easier."
"Please don't speak using contractions- oh, Galafamor, I'm doing it again."
Star used her wand to tie part of her hair back, the rest falling down her back in messy, uneven curls.
"Oh, dear Mewni, Star, let me help you." her mother said, taking the wand from her daughter and fixing the long, tangled mess of hair into a neat bun.
"Mom, I love you, but please, just LEAVE." Star said, trying to fix her hair once again. "I'm a big girl now, I can handle it."
"I'm sorry. It is your wedding and I should let you handle it."
Star smiled, continuing to pry the bobby pins out of her hair.
"I do have to pry your father from his chair in the library. You know how he is when he gets nervous. You are his only daughter, after all."
"Do you want me to get Daddy?" Star asked and her mother shook her head slowly.
"It's best for your father not to see you looking grown up until the actual wedding. He still thinks of you as his little baby girl, although I may have the same perception sometimes."
"It's okay. I'm pretty much done anyways." Star said. "You want me to get Marco?"
"No! Good God, Star, have you not listened to all the times I've warned you of the bad luck of a husband seeing his wife on their wedding day?"
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I'll call Ferguson." Star said, pulling a cell-phone from off her dresser.
As her mother left Star sighed and looked in the mirror. She wasn't used to actually looking like...like a princess, soon-to-be queen. It felt weird, like she wasn't herself, but good weird in a way.
Her phone rang three times before Ferguson answered.
"Hola, you've reached the Ferg." he said. Star rolled her eyes as he'd been answering the phone that way since tenth grade.
"Hey, 'The Ferg', it's the Mewnian princess." she said. "You think you can get here quick? The wedding's in an hour."
"You're getting MARRIED?" Ferguson asked, shocked. "Al, Star's getting married!"
"To Marco?" she heard in the background. Ferguson repeated the same question.
"Yeah, to Marco. We've been dating since high school and he proposed last summer." Star said, smiling.
"We'll be there as soon as I can find the scissors." Ferguson said, hanging up as Star heard a large crashing sound.
Around three minutes later the dynamic duo stood in Star's bedroom, both aghast about her attire.
"Holy chicken nuggets." Ferguson said. "You got HOT."
Since Marco wasn't there to elbow him Star looked at her feet and blushed.
"Marco scored."
"Yeah, um, speaking of Marco, he's down the hall and that's actually why I called you here. I needed you to calm him down. I know he's nervous."
"Detective Ferg and Hopalong Al are on the case, milady." Ferguson said in a goofy accent, tipping an imaginary hat towards Star as they left, Alfonzo asking "Why do I have to be Hopalong?"
Star blew her bangs from her face, falling over onto her bed. She didn't think Marco was quite as nervous as she was. This was so hard...
She ended up taking a nap, being shaken awake by an aggressive Alfonzo.
"STAR! The wedding is starting downstairs!" he yelled in her ear, Star groaning and thinking about how she'd probably be temporarily deaf in that ear for a couple hours. Her eyes shot open.
"Holy Mewni." she said, running down the hall, sliding down the banister, and landing on her feet before running outside to find a ton of people and creatures staring at her, including Buff Frog and all his tadpole children.
Before she could think why someone had invited Lobster Claws she stumbled on her shoes into her father's arms, and slowly descended the aisle.
Seeing Marco made her heart melt, forgetting all her nervous thoughts and just thinking Holy cow, she was going to get married.
She finally reached the end, taking his hand in hers as his mother, Marco, Star and her father all stood in a line, eventually the parents breaking the chain to sit down.
The young couple looked at each other, and a strange thing began to happen.
They both began to laugh.
First it was a small giggle and then full-on laughter, everyone there giving them odd looks as they doubled over laughing.
"You look like a lawyer!" Star teased, and Marco smiled, pulling her into a hug.
"You look like Marie Antionette." he retorted, and they both started laughing again.
"What are we doing?" Star asked under her breath, and Marco shrugged.
"I love you and I can't ever see my life working without you being a part of it."
"I love you too, so I guess you're stuck with me." Star said, giggling as he poked one of the hearts on her cheeks.
"Are you two almost finished?" they heard and turned to see the man ready to marry them. They exchanged a glance.
"With all due respect, sir, this isn't ever going to be finished." Marco said, looking at Star and smiling.
"How about you just let him say the magic words, dork?" Star asked and Marco leaned over to whisper the words weren't actually magic. Star elbowed him in the side, claiming she knew, and took his hand in hers.
The man up front let out a smile as he stated their promises, as they states their vows, and all those other important words, but the one neither could wait for was the final words.
"I do."
"I do."
"You may now kiss the bride."
Marco met Star's eyes, Star seeing the once-nervous boy she'd kissed so many years before, and grabbed his collar, pulling him close to her and pressing her lips against his, taking his hand and putting it on her cheek as she let go of his jacket. The cheering had gone wild.
--
"Well, I think that's enough for tonight." the blonde woman told her daughters and son, all five members of the family in the master bedroom stuffed into the bed, which although it was big was not quite enough for the Butterfly-Diaz family.
"Is that really true?" the thirteen-year-old asked, pulling her dark brown hair into a long ponytail as her hazel eyes met her mother's blue ones.
"Every word." Star said.
"Mom really fell asleep?" the nine-year-old boy asked, his brown eyes looking into his father's as the man ruffled his blonde hair.
"Yep, she did." Marco said, "and she was almost late."
"Well I think it's super romantic." the female twin said, her green eyes meeting his. "Like Sleeping Beauty, right Daddy?"
"Sleeping Beauty? Your mother snores like a foghorn." Marco teased his wife, who rolled her eyes.
"At least I don't sleepwalk and make sandwiches." Star protested, and they all laughed.
"Okay, I know we all love to watch Dad and Mom tease each other but it's getting late." Marco said. "And you little demons have to get to bed."
"Don't call the kids demons." Star sighed. "It's offensive to demons." she smiled.
"Fine, they're tiny terrorists." Marco said, picking up the little blonde girl. "And the tiny terrorists have a bedtime."
"RAWR." the boy said, jumping onto his older sister, who groaned and pushed him off.
"Mom, Sol is being a tiger again." she groaned, and Star laughed, taking the boy in her arms.
"Well, he's a very cute tiger." Star said as his head fell on her shoulder. "And not a very good one." she whispered to her oldest daughter, who giggled.
"If Sol gets to be a tiger I wanna be a lion!" the younger girl said, making a roaring sound in her father's face.
"Well, the Mari-lion needs to brush her teeth." Marco said, putting her on the floor. "And the Luna lion needs to stop texting and go to bed."
"Daaaad." the girl groaned, putting her phone down on her lap. "Please don't."
"Luna can't be a lion because I'm a lion!" Mari protested. "She can be a llama."
"I'm not a llama, you little-" Luna started until her mother put a hand on her shoulder. "I can't wait for college." she grumbled.
