Serendipity Zimmer looked up from the cash register of her little small bakery down in Hogsmeade. The students loved to come here, and she enjoyed their company. She never really did have friends of her age, and it always seemed to help when the students came. And when they did, she enjoyed talking to them.

She rang up the register, taking Neville Longbottom’s money, brushing off the twinge of jealousy she felt. She had always wanted to go to Hogwarts, yet she couldn’t. Mainly because her parents were off on vacation doing only God knows what most of the time, leaving her to tend to the shop. It left no room for her schooling, so she taught herself.

“So h-how have you been, Sere?” Neville asked, taking a bit of the sandwich that he had ordered.

The rainbow haired girl grinned, light blue eyes glimmering. “I’ve been good, mum said I can go to Hogwarts starting fourth year.”

She couldn’t keep the excitement out of her voice as she spoke.

Neville smiled widely. “I can’t wait to see you! I hope you’re in Gryffindor!”

Serendipity laughed, “Yeah, me too.”

A year later she stood in front of the whole school, the Sorting Hat on her head. Everyone was staring, mainly at her colorful mane. Who wouldn’t? It wasn't like you saw a rainbow haired girl often. Especially in Hogwarts. Actually, now that she thought about it, she never really did see anyone with rainbow hair. The top of her hair started with pink, slowly becoming purple, green, yellow, and then orange.

“Serendipity Zimmer….Ah, the child of Carolina and Gregory, aye? Interesting….interesting. You should be put in…”

“SLYTHERIN!”

Her face faltered slightly, and she took the hat off, moving to her new table. Where her house was waiting for her. She was greeted with glares, and she shrugged it off, looking over at Neville who sat with the Golden Trio, looking at her in slight fright.

Serendipity sighed, turning to her food.

Now she wasn't sure comming to Hogwarts was a good idea after all.

“I said, ‘Put him down,’” Serendipity snarled, wand pointed directly at Malfoy and his gang. The Slytherins around them seemed to hiss and the other students from different houses gaped. It wasn't everyday you got to see a Slytherin turn against their own house to protect a Gryffindor. Actually, it never happened, hence all  the stares and such.

She sent a spell at the blonde when he didn’t listen, causing the boy and his lackeys to run away in pure fright. That Malfoy boy was quite the scaredy cat. She leaned down, helping the lanky boy up.

“T-Thanks Sere.”

“No problem, Neville.”

This was the first time they had talked in about a month, and it felt good to be talking to her best friend again.

Serendipity’s breath hitched as Neville made his way to her, not understanding why he had such confidence on his face. She pretended to be nonchalant, looking at him in a rather confused manner as he cornered her in the hallway.

“I-I was wondering if you were going to the Yule ball.”

She shrugged, “I think I will. But I don’t have a date so I’ll probably go alone.”

“Yeah, me too. I was going to ask Ginny but some Ravenclaw asked her first.”

Serendipity felt a twinge of jealousy. He had been planning to ask Ginny? She frowned slightly saying, “I see, so we’ll be loners together.”

Neville swallowed, his inner voice cheering him on.

“Actually I was wondering. Sere, will you go to the Yule ball with me?”

There was a pause and Neville felt his confidence falter slightly, afraid she'd say no.

“Yes. Yes!”

Neville looked up in slight shock, and smiled as her face was lit up as bright as a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. He let out a breath, “Th-That’s great! I can’t-”

She cut him off, kissing him lightly on the lips.

Neville’s eyes widened, and she pulled back, looking uncertain.

To her surprise, Neville pulled her back into another kiss. This time the two smiled into it, both happy beyond belief.

Serendipity couldn't help but think that this was going to be a wonderful time at Hogwarts. And in the end, she was right.
