I was just about falling asleep when Kaleb ran into my room screaming. "KATIE!!!! I'M SCARED!!!" He jumped into my bed and squirmed around until he managed to get under the covers. I sat straight up and pulled my comforter down exposing my shaking 7 year old brother in Spongebob pajamas. I grabbed him by the waist and sat him upright against the backboard of my bed. "Hey buddy!! What's wrong?! Are you okay??" I hugged him tight. He was still vigorously shaking. He finally responded," N-n-no. I saw it m-move!!" I still had no idea what he was talking about. "What moved?" he was starting to cry. "Th-the c-c-curtains!!" I smirked a little. Poor kid! I wiped his tears with my sleeve. "No, it was probably just the wind Kaleb. Now go back to bed!" Kaleb shook his head. "What do you mean, no?" Kaleb looked at me with his big, brown puppy-dog eyes. " It wasn't the wind Katie, it wasn't the wind!" I put my hands on his shoulders and spoke calmly. "How do you know?" Kaleb hesitated, like he almost didn't want to tell me... "B-because my window's closed!!" I was really confused now. I mean, when my brother sees something, he really sees it!! And that's that! "Let's just go see this closed window... shall we?" I had to practically drag Kaleb out of my bed. When i finally got him up, he grabbed my hand and held it as we walked out my door, down the hall, and down to his door. "You wanna open it Kaleb?" Kaleb dropped to the floor and wrapped himself around my leg. "No thanks, I'm good!" I slowly turned the knob and opened the door. "Oh my god!!!" He peeked his head around the door and started crying. "Katie, what's going on??!" I looked back at him and started to sob. "I don't know Kaleb!! I don't know!!"
Things have been hectic the last couple weeks. Between dad leaving, Kaleb freaking, and me having the worst luck, things have been pretty suckish. But this wasn't like that. This wasn't me getting tripped in the halls. This wasn't me falling flat on my face in front of my crush. This was serious chiz. What Kaleb and I saw that night was real. And it was freaky! When we went to Kaleb's room, the window was still closed- like he said- but everything in his room was messed up. He had just cleaned his room earlier that day, so he wouldn't mess it up himself (or he wouldn't get allowance). Things had fallen off shelves, toys were in pieces, and clothes were all over the floor. And Kaleb was right. The curtain was moving! We slept in my room that night. I didn't mind! I mean, he slept in my bed and kicked me off in the middle of the night, but I didn't care. He was scared! And I was too.
Today is a Saturday!! (No school!) What happened last night was too much to take in, so when i woke up this morning, I thought I was just dreaming. But I wasn't!! Kaleb was sitting over me, waiting for me to wake up. "Good morning sunshine!" He said to me as I opened my eyes. "Ahhh!! What are you doing??!!" I got up and slipped on my robe. "I'm being polite! After all, you are letting me stay in your room until we get this ghost problem taken care of." I didn't think he was going to be staying in my room for more than one night! He came up to me and gave me a big hug. "Uh... Kaleb?! I didn't think this was gonna be a long term thing!! I need my privacy! I was okay with just a night or two of you sleeping in my room. We need to talk to mom and dad about this." We went downstairs and made toaster waffles with mapel syrup and whipped cream. Then we went upstairs to see if mom and dad were awake yet. Oh yeah... That's right. I forgot dad left. Mom was sitting up reading the morning paper. "Hey, mom!" Kaleb and I said simultaneously. "Good morning guys! How's about I make us up a big breakfast this mornin?" She said (cheerfully I might add) as she set down her paper on the nightstand. Me and Kaleb looked at each other. "Umm... Mom? We already ate breakfast. We had toaster waffles. And it's almost noon, anyways." I looked at her. I kind of felt bad! "Well, then I guess I'll just have to plan lunch. We can have lunchmeat. I'll make us all up some yummy turkey samwiches and grill it with the provolone I got for. The farmers market yesterday!" That sounded awesome! Kaleb and I raced downstairs and waited for mom in the kitchen. She came down in her robeand slippers, and started getting food out of the fridge. She started naming the foods as she pulled them out. "Hmm let's see... White bread, provolone, butter, mayonnaise, and... Hmm. That's not good! I'll have to go to the store." She showed us the rotting lunchmeat and headed upstairs to get dressed. I looked at Kaleb with his eyes wide. "What?" I asked him as he dropped his mouth open. "I had some of that turkey yesterday! When I got home from school, I had some." He seemed really freaked out. I asked him," and it was fine yesterday? How could it go bad in one night?" We were both confused now.
