Right, now, let's start again!
------------------------------------------------------
Three days later:"Windsor, my friends.", announced Caspar and pointed at a street sign. We had finally arrived at a place to stay. It was about half past eight, everyone was hungry and we just wanted a place where we could lock ourselves up, in other words: a house.
Usually Windsor wasn't too far away from London and we could have made it in a day, but my foot was still hurt and we had to go the long way round because all the motor ways were full of runners. Last night we had stayed outside which wasn't only fucking cold, but also risky. Arriving in Windsor meant finding a house to stay in. A house with a chimney hopefully.
"Where do we go though?", Tan asked with a yawn.
Jim's eyes lit up, "I have an idea, guys. Just follow me."
No one had enough energy to argue any risks of blindly trusting Jim and also he wasn't stupid, so everyone followed. We walked up a little hill, avoiding big streets, passing e few fields and then what seemed like some kind of station. It all looked really a bit scary, all abandoned and dark. But we all were used to scary things.
We walked up a parkway filled with broken limousines, when we realized where Jim had taken us.
"Jim", Dan stuttered, "I-Is that Windsor Castle?"
"Jep."
I hesitated, "Guys, what if it's filled with eager royal service staff trying to eat us?"
Jim sighed, "I thought about that, too, but after all that can happen, why not try it? We for sure know that we'll have a chimney there."
Joe grinned, "Come on, YOLO."
I frowned, "You only live once? The guy from the supermarket earlier that tried to nibble your arm off didn't quite get the message. But alright, let's try it."
We kept walking towards the huge castle that was lying in the dark, seemingly peaceful. We could easily get through the security fence due to the fact that the the guard was probably tumbling through the city, grunting zombie-grunts. The huge wooden door was closed, a good sign actually, nothing could have gotten in. But also nothing out, so that Joe raised his gun, Dan his knife and Alfie the cricket bat he had found when we hads left London. Jim broke the lock with a pair of pliers we had picked up from a DIY-store, then it opened. We walked into a huge hall. Empty, no potential threads.
"Looks fine.", assumed Phil insecurely.
"Yeah, let's walk upstairs and find us a chimney.", Caspar added.
So we did. After climbing the big staircase with beautiful ornaments, we reached a long corridor with a high ceiling. Everything looked beautiful and calm like nothing we had seen in the last time. All of us remained quiet in admiration until Jim touched the handle of the first door.
"Wait!", whispered Joe, "I can hear something!", he help up and pointed at the door, "Now."
Jim opened the door and it swung open. Everyone froze. That's not what we would have expected. Joe was the first one to find back his brain.
He lowered the gun, "Y-your majesty..."
The Queen chuckled, "In these times it seems rather useless to hold onto old titles, is it? What are you standing there like ice sculptures? Come in, close the door, it's cold outside. What are your names, my loves?"
