Chapter 7
(Tanja's POV)
I make my flat ready for the girls who would arrive at mine in about an hour for our arranged girl's night in. I fill bowls with sweets and take some champagne flutes out of the glass cabinet, prepare the cheese for our planned fondue and groom myself. I'm buzzling around because I manage it over and over again, that I'm terribly late with my preparations and I really hope that I will be ready when they'll be knocking at my door. It would make quite a bad impression if I would receive them towel-wrapped and completely flat-footed. But I strike it lucky and everything's finished as they turn up.
"Hi, come in. You look great, ladies." I feel a bit underdressed in my simple black jeans and mint blouse as I see them looking so precious. I kiss them on the cheek and hand them a glass of Prosecco. We sit down and start directly with the fondue.
Amanda looks around excited. "Guess what...? Max asked me if I would like to move in!" Her finely chiselled features are lighten up with a big smile and she gets congratulation from everyone.
"Wow, great! How long are you already dating?" I ask her.
"Two years now, it was our anniversary when he asked me. He's such a darling." She dips her piece of bread into the cheese.
We change the subject to the boy's tour and I come to know that they will take their girlfriends with them into a house they'll rent for the month they'll spend in California. When they'll drive on to several other cities and concerts, the girls will take a flight back to the UK because there isn't enough space for all of them.
"I will have to reject an offer for a new movie I was actually having a roll in." Molly looks a bit sad but then she adds: "It's worth rejecting it for being with him, though. If I wouldn't come along with him, I would spend most of the time missing him and I couldn't concentrate anyway."
This must be true love: to pass up a golden opportunity for a career jump just to be with her boyfriend. Admirable, I think.
Out of the sudden, Eva rivets on me and asks with a mischievous grin: "Soo, is there something going on between you and Jay?"
Blush starts to cover my cheeks what raises a knowing smile on the girl's faces. Molly adds: "You've been looking really sweet together the other day. I've never seen him being that comfortable with a girl since Lily-May left."
I'm a bit astonished about her statement and so I ask her what she ment to say. Her look becomes sympathetic and she answers carefully. "You know, he was actually shattered after she left him without calling or texting even once. For about two months we hardly heard from him. He shut himself away in his flat, drank a lot... The flat was a complete mess and Jay was a mental wreck. We tried our best to cheer him up and wanted him to go out with us, just to forget things but he fought it. He loved her so much that he couldn't trust any girl anymore." She shakes her head and sighs. "Poor Jay, he didn't deserve this..."
After I heard the whole story now, I feel even more astonished. He never mentioned that it was such a tough time for him. "He told me about her but he never showed in any way that it had been that bad. "
She shrugs her shoulders and shows a little smile. "I guess he didn't want to appear to be still bemoaning the loss of her. Like I mentioned, he didn't trust girls and now you're the first one he really cares about and as well opens up to. The Lily-May-Thing is years ago now and he got over it, don't worry."
Eva chimes in, she rest her elbows on the table and leans forward. "Now, are there any news we should know about?"
"He asked me out yesterday." I say slowly, almost like a question to hold back a bit.
"Yes!" Eva shouts cheerfully and claps in her hand. Amanda flinches and almost falls off her chair, she grabs the table's edge just in time to not tip over and land on the floor. "Haha, that was hilarious, Amanda!" Molly and I burst out laughing.
"Christ on a bike, you scared me to death, you dickhead! Why?" Amanda giggles.
Eva grabs the bottle and refills our glasses, then starts to explain: "I just won a bet. Tom wagered 20 pound that Jay will ask you in a week... I bet on two days." She shrugs, completele satisfied with her choice. At first she grins slyly then her face suddenly turns to serious and she asks me with a frown and an anoxious face: "But do you like him back?"
I quickly think about this question, I mean: he's funny, handsome, kind and to top it off, he's obsessed with Avatar. It doesn't get much better than that, I reckon. Not to mention the butterflies in my stomach everytime I see him and even when I only think of him. And these elusive eyes still screw my mind, you feel like he's looking right into your mind. Summarized, that probably means that at least I like him, rather that I have a pash for him. "Yes, she does like him" Molly laughs. "Look at her smile." The girls agree with her as they join Molly's laughter.
I notice the smile that crept on my face while I was trying to become aware of my feelings for Jay. "You're right but let's see how the date's going and then I can say for sure."
We spent the whole night watching chick flicks and talking about former relationships. I don't mention Patrick, I still have problems with telling that story, even to the girls. It still hurts and I want to be sure that I can trust a person before I uncover my biggest weakness. The incidence that hurt me the most, apart from my dad's death of course. But that's a thing I can accept, I can cope with it. The issue of the story about Patrick is that it could happen again, over and over again. And I could definitely not cope with that.
