Chapter 2
"Mandy, Mandy, Mandy" yelled Jenny while jumping on my bed. I opened my eyes and saw that my door was wide open and my bin of old ballet shows knocked over. "get out," I commanded, "and don't come in again." Jenny lost all her energy. Sadly, she walked out of my room. I turned to my night stand and looked at what time it is. "10 already, better get up" I said to myself.
I got up and closed my door, so no Jennies can get in. There I saw one of my old shoes. I couldn't remember how old it was. It must of been pretty old because it was a flat slipper. I picked up the shoe and put it in the bin. Then, I started to pick up all the shoes. These shoes are my prized possession. If I ever lost one of these shoes, I would be devastated. To make sure I had all my shoes in the bin, I counted them. I do not care if I have to be out by 11:00 and still need to shower. I whispered "One ballet slipper, two ballet slipper, three ballet slipper, four ballet slipper, five ballet slipper, six ballet slipper, seven ballet slipper, eight ballet slipper, nine ballet slipper, ten ballet slipper, eleven ballet slipper." I am missing one. All of the sudden, I heard my mom. "Hurry up or we'll leave without you?" I'll have to find it later or I won't get to see my cousin, Kate.
Looks like I don't have time to shower, so I put on my fuzzy yellow rope and headed to my bathroom. My family doesn't like seeing me in a tank top and shorts, but they're fine with me wearing a leotard. I ran into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, washed my face and put my hair in a pony. I went back to my room, but interrupted by my little sister. " We are leaving in five minutes." I ignored her. There is no time to be bothered by her. When I got in the room, I opened my closet, and I picked out one of my favorite skinny jeans and a blue Hollister shirt. I grabbed one of my many pairs of flip flops and ran out of my room.
"Your lucky we didn't leave without you," said my dad, "or you would have to run to Max and Erma's." He truly thinks that he is humorous. My mom says the best thing to do is go along with it. That is probably the wisest thing my mom said all her life, well at least mine. I responded "what a great workout that would be." I saw my dad chuckle. It is hard to get him laugh on a comeback from one of his jokes, if you want to call it a joke.
I am glad that we finally got there. Every time my whole family rides in a car together, it is an awkward family ride in a car. I could tell that Jenny is excited. She was trying to run to the front door but ran into a pole instead. All u heard was her whinny annoying voice yelling " MOMMY, " some crying "MOMMY." My mom rushed over there to save Jenny from the pole. "Oh sweetie, it is just a bruise." " but it hurts" The only ten year old that complains like that is my sister.
Finally, my mom got my sister to go inside. She forgot about her bruise once she saw Aunty, Aunt Gabby. Aunty is my mom's twin sister. It is funny how they look a like, but their kids looks like they are different parts of the world. Aunty's only kid is Kate, the only family member that I can tolerate in long periods of time. " Happy Birthday Kate!" said my sister. "Thank you Jennyboo" Jenny giggled and started to follow the waiter. My mom was whispering to Aunt Gabby. I guess it had to do with Kate's new hair. "Like my new style?" Kate asked me. Not paying attention, I said yeah. "Isn't it very green?" I could tell she is trying to start a conversation. "Very green like the grinch." I responded. She didn't seem to think it was very funny. "Isn't that your dad's area of speciality."said Kate. I rolled my eyes.
I told the waiter, "I'll just have a cheeseburger." While everyone else was ordering, I sat there thinking I really should be practicing. No one even bothered me. Uncle Steve and my dad is probably talking about some sport or something. My mom and Aunt Gabby is probably fighting over Kate's new hair color. Kate is probably being all nice to Jenny. I assume, she is listening to Jenny talking about Epic. I never have family get togethers like this often.
Our food finally came. I finished before everyone else. Most likely because they were all talking and I was just eating. Kate suddenly said "I have a great idea, why doesn't Mandy sleep over tonight." In shock, I looked at her. Everyone thought that would be a good idea except me, but no one asked me so I had to go along with it.
