Horrible Distractions
“Where are you going,” my mom ask when my hand just reached the door knob of the back door.
I closed my eyes shut and nervously, turned to look at her. “My new friend’s house,” I said truthfully. I wasn’t lying. I am going to my friend’s house, I’m just not going to mention about the party. I gave my mom the “innocent smile.”
She frowned. “Who’s this friend? You never told me you had a new friend. Besides, you hate making new friends.”
I shrugged. “She reminds me of Ally. You can meet her if you want. “
“Of course I do,” she exclaimed. “I’ve always liked that Ally girl. She was a good friend to you. It’s nice you found a friend like her. She should come over for dinner.”
I almost choked my spit. “I don’t think she would want to come over for dinner,” I said. “Besides, her brother never leaves her sight.” Lies, he never leaves my sight.
“Invite him too,” she said.
I just made this situation much worst. Why did I have to bring it up? I really don’t want to have dinner with my parents and Layla, Collin, and I in the same table. Knowing my mother will win this argument, I said, “Yes.” I sighed. Everything always has to go her way.
She smiled. “She has a brother?”
“Mom,” I exclaimed. I knew what she meant about the question. I refuse to have the s e x talk with her. There is nothing else she could say to me. Anyway, she’s kind of too late. Knowing this pause is getting awkward, I said, “Can I go now?”
She sighed. “We will have this talk sooner or later?”
“I pick later, later mom,” I said, quickly exiting, before she could say anything else. There is nothing more awkward than having the s e x talk with your parents. If only she talked about that sooner…

“Are we there yet,” Layla whined from the back of the car.
I turned around to look at her. “We just left there like a minute ago and this is tenth time you asked. It’s getting pretty annoying,” I told her.
She rolled her eyes. “I just want to party.”
What’s the rush, Layla? I guess she’s just eager to have fun and forgot about Cal, but how can she forget about him when he’s going to be in the party?
I looked at Collin. “It’s your fault. You drive slower than my grandma,” I said poking him in the arm.
He chuckled. “I’m following the speed limit.”
I crossed my arms and pouted like a little kid. “If I drove my car to the party with Layla, we would already be there,” I muttered softly.
He looked at me for a second. “You want to sit in my lap and drive,” he asked as his face moved to look at the road.
Was that a come on? Was Mr. Shy Guy hitting on me? That was unexpected. I was staring at his face in disbelief. The corner of his mouth was tipped up, a smirk. He was smirking at me!
It was my turn to blush. I don’t blush a lot, but I think it was unbelievable, maybe that’s why I blushed.
I heard a scoffed from behind me. Layla is obviously trying to tell me to back off her brother. I will, because the guy is actually sweet. I talked to him a lot at her house today and I found out Collin is a great guy. Like Layla, I don’t want to see myself break his heart. I can, but I wouldn’t like it.
