Saturday. The only day that Kean looks forward to. The only day that he gets to sleep until late afternoon, so to celebrate he played with his Xbox until 3 o'clock in the morning. You could imagine his surprise when his phone rang at 8 in the morning.
"Marshall I swear I'm going to kill you"
"You slept late again didn't you?"
"That's the whole idea of having a Saturday as the next day you moron, what do you want?" Kean grumbled.
He could hear Marshall trying to hold in his laughter. Kean knew that Marshall is really getting a kick out of waking him early. If he could get away it he'd really murder his best friend but sadly he might get caught so he decided to spare Marshall, just for know.
That's a joke in case you're wondering.
"We have a report due next Monday, we need a few sources from the city library" Marshall said
"Marshall, the library doesn't open for a solid two hours" Kean groaned
"Really? I didn't know that" Marshall replied sarcastically
"You know someday I'm really going to murder you, I mean I'll literally tear you limb from limb"
"I know! See you at ten genius"
Kean threw down his phone by his feet and covered his head with a pillow and returned to La-La land.
************************************************
"Troublesome" Kean muttered for a hundredth time. He was perusing the shelves of the city library alone. Marshall texted Kean a few minutes that "he could'nt come" and "something's come up" which Kean translated to "hey bud! I met a girl on the way here so I'm going to take her out, good luck with the search!"
Kean was browsing the reference section when a familiar sight of jagged raven black hair caught his attention from the other side of the shelf. He peered again through the gaps and confirmed that is was indeed Yuki Stephens.
He decided to see what she's doing here. Kean peeked around the aisle to where Yuki was. If you happen to see Kean you'd immediately think that he's a creepy stalker.
There was something about the sole member of the Literary Club that's been bothering him, he could not a finger in it but something about her is different, it was like something was pulling him towards her, at first Kean thought it was probably because she helped him but it wasn't that. It's really bugging Kean because he couldn't find the logical reason to why he's drawn to the shy girl.
He was snapped out of his revere when Yuki moved on towards a small cubicle that was stacked with a whole lot of different books. She sat down and started reading. Kean couldn't believe how many books there was on her table.
"Is she planning to read all of those?" Kean thought
Kean continued to watch Yuki as she flipped through the pages and would occasionally write something on her notebook. She repeated the process with 3 more different books.
"So she's doing the report" Kean deduced.
As Yuki started reading through her 4th book, Kean walked towards her cubicle. Maybe he could ask her if he could borrow the books she took so he wouldn't have to trouble himself of reference materials, plus after he got those books he could just make Marshall do the report. Revenge is sweet he thought as he smiled evilly.
"Hey Yuki"
*******************************************
Yuki was startled when someone greeted her from behind, she turned around and glared at the stranger.
Kean raised his hands in a calming manner. "It's just me" He smiled.
She continued to glare at him because he ruined her notes, the tail of her letter "q" extended a little more than necessary.
"I'm sorry for startling you" Kean said
Yuki tried to smile for him, but manage a small nod instead.
"You plan on reading all of this?" Kean indicated to the books in front of her.
"Yes" she admitted.
"Wow, you sure take home a lot of books" he marveled
"I don't take them home, I read it here" Yuki said in a soft monotone "I don't have a library card"
She expected him to laugh or at least ask her why she didn't get one. Yuki stared at her shoes, hoping the ground would swallow her. When she didn't heard anything she slowly looked up to find out that Kean was already gone. Yuki felt a little hurt that he just left like that, she sighed sadly and returned to her book.
A few minutes later she felt a soft tap on her shoulder, she turned and saw Kean kneeling beside her.
"Here, fill this up" he said handing her a small form
"What's this?
"Well, this a library card application, fill it up and I'll take it to librarian so you could take home books you want to read" Kean smiled at her.
Yuki was shocked that he did that for her, she took the pen and started filling up the necessary information. After finishing she handed back the form to Kean, blushing a little when her fingers brushed his.
"Back in a bit"
Yuki looked at Kean's retreating form she was a bit puzzled of what Kean did. Nobody did anything for her, in fact nobody takes notice of her. She has no friends at Gray Stone Prep, she knew it was because she was very shy and would only speak when spoken to.
It was always like that ever since she was a little girl, kids her age tried to get her to play with them but she always refused, instead she would curl by her bed and read a book. Yuki started the club expecting to find people like her, but so far no such luck. The only person that has even been inside the Literary club was Kean Grayson and that was because she dragged him inside and tended to his wounds.
There was something about him that makes her more nervous than usual, especially when he flashes his crooked smile it creates butterflies in her stomach
"Here you go Miss Stephens" Kean grinned at her while handing her the library card.
"T-Thank You" Yuki stuttered.
"I can understand how troublesome it is dealing with people" Kean said
Yuki looked at Kean, she smiled. A small and sincere smile that seemed to caught the lazy genius off guard. She blushed and averted her gaze.
"This means a lot" she said
Kean just flashed the same crooked grin that made her uncertain.
"Gotta go know, I need to get this reference materials to my friend"
Yuki replied with a nod.
"See you around Yuki" Kean smiled for the last time as he left.
When he was out of earshot.
"See around...Kean" she mumbled as red tinted her pale cheeks.
