Everything's going to be fine. Today is going to be okay. Might not be good, but okay.
I had already gotten ready for school with my grey sweater, ripped jeans and my favorite black and white sneakers. I stare at my hazel eyes in the mirror as I brush my thick brown curls into a knot. I'm not really what you'd call gorgeous or beautiful. With infectious freckles all over my brown skin I look like someone who just finished a war with the chickenpox. My mom says I get them from my dad whom I don't see often enough to even remember if he had freckles. Taking in a deep breath I get to my bed and start stuffing my backpack for school. I get to the bedroom door when I see something in the corner of my eye. It was small but noticeable, a slick silver necklace with the infinity sign. Someone had given it to me as an early birthday present. Great, I thought. Another reminder of my pitiful birthday.
I went ahead and clipped on the necklace when I heard my mom yell from the kitchen downstairs, "Grace! You need to come downstairs if you want to eat breakfast before school." Soon enough I am running down the stairs, my mouth eager to be stuffed with pancakes and sausage.
As I eat and start climbing into the car all my mom can talk about is how much "fun" school is going to be today. My mom isn't really the type of person that constantly acts enthusiastic about everything, its just that today is career day at Charter High school. And my mom thinks I need to think a little more about what I'm going to do when I get older. But truthfully I don't want to even think about Career Day. The teachers never consider what the students want to pick as their career to study, but we do get to miss our classes.
I look out the passenger window and try to think about how I'm going to survive this boring Friday. When suddenly it happens. Its totally weird but I swear it looks like a figure. Not like a ghost, its more like a creepy stalker from one of those slasher movies like Friday the 13th. And I love slasher movies. The person has a jet black cloak over their head that covers half of their face. But I could see the person's brown eyes that seem to be glaring right through my skin. Curious and unafraid I stare back at the stalker waiting for a response but soon enough, a car drives between us and the cloaked person is no longer in the bushes. Probably one of those middle schoolers trying to find a victim to pester. By the time my mom drives into the school parking lot I really just want to rip my ears off. I mutter, "Bye mom" and dash through the front doors before she can even drive away. I faintly hear "I love you honey." From the car.
I walk through the bright hallway calmly where the High school students mingle. I don't expect any of them to notice me except my one and only best friend Charlotte. Charlotte is the type of friend who is always going to give you the common sense on why not to do anything risky or dumb but as my friend, she always sticks by my side on all the crazy stuff I drag her into.
When she sees me her golden curls dance as she turns her head to say hi to me. Charlotte gives me a giant bear hug,
"Finally your here! Why did it take you so long?
We are starting to split into our groups."I shrug my shoulders, "Sorry a girl's gotta eat. It was either come
to school on time with hunger clawing at me or just be late with a full and happy stomach. Plus if I didn't eat I wouldn't be in the best mood right now."Charlotte rolls her brown eyes in amusement, "You're always hungry." We both smile and start heading towards our career group.
Sadly for us our group was assigned Delivery Nurse. Which quite frankly isn't my idea of a awesome job for the rest of my life. Both Charlotte and I stand at the back of our group. We listen obediently to an older women she's describing the opportunities we can get if we get a job as a nurse.
"Now children getting a job as a delivery nurse is 100% perfect for anyone. Other than the obsessive hours of screaming mothers and blacked out fathers its great!" The lady says this in a happy tone, with a wide fake and paining smile that I know no one wants to see. I whisper to Charlotte,"This nurse is going to persuade me to pass out and when the ambulance come and ask how it happened tell them that it was the boredom that drove me into my condition."
Charlotte giggles, but the boy in front of me, Jonas, clearly isn't interested and turns his head to shush me. Ignoring him, I start to look through the giant window in the classroom.
Since its the middle of December I imagine tiny snowflakes sinking into a soft blanket of snow. Children scream of delight as they throw snow balls at each other and stick their toughs out to taste the cold flakes that melt from the warm touch of their bodies. Its almost like a memory, I think to myself. Then the courtyard appears and the small daydream is gone. But there was one thing that still remained. Right in the middle of the window a chunk of snow was hanging. And there's a symbol carved into it. The same symbol that lay across my neck. Right next to the symbol words carve out the word, Infinity.
Well to anyone who ends up bumping into my book, I hope you like my very first(short) chapter. I came up with the idea for the book exactly when my school was doing doing career day. The girl in the story is completely misunderstood in her school. Not exactly being bullied, just ignored by others until some something comes her way. Grace, as you could tell as the main character is a shy 15 year old girl trying to at least go through high school with he's best friend. I'm not going to say anything else for the sake of anyone would like to read more and just anyone who would to share comments and ideas feel free to if you would like.
Also if you get curious click my awesome sauce kitty profile picture to check out what I'm all about-(wow just rhymed right there, just had to say it) or just click on my username below to stock me. I know some of you are probably wondering, "Why in the world is the chapter so short, why does her grammer totally suck?!?" I'm sorry ok I'm just not some professional. I'm not saying I'm desperate-(hourly checking the comments) or completely paranoid when I say that I'm exciting to hear anyone's thoughts on the first chapter out of many to come. See you later,
