Dear world,
Why be so cruel?
Why do you have to hurt us?
Allow people who hate abuse your soil
And then bury our innocent lives in it
Why take your most beautiful places
And let the blood of helpless lives stain you?
Let people die for what they don't believe in
And let them kill for what they do
I'm sorry, I don't mean to fuss
But why just watch as people destroy us?
If I were you
Red would express love
Not blood
How can we ignore what is happening?
When our children grow
Like the trees on your ground
Don't let them cry of sorrow and pain
Let burst with joy
And never have to worry about their grave
In our cities in which we take great pride
Don't let us have to watch our loved ones die
The city of love
Died
The city of lights
Dimmed
What is sacred anymore?
What has our world come to?
New York
Paris
What is next?
The world I took pride in has shriveled into a pit of hate and sorrow
I'm which we kill our kind by the thousands
Ten thousands
Millions
Billions
We have nothing left but imitation and hate and sorrow and jealousy
Who's next world?
Who will you let die today
We are going to keep fighting and we are going to keep taking innocent lives
And what, because no one will stop it
They say it's over
They say we are safe
But let me tell you
This is coming from a 12 year old girl
And I know
We will never be safe
I want my children to grow up and not have to worry constantly like me
Of people set out for blood
I don't know what it means to be safe anymore
No one seems to care

Sincerely,
Grace McLeod, 12 years
