updating thursday too..
"Whoa," I said as Justin and I approached his Dad's boat at the end of the dock. His dad's boat stuck out among the rest. The boat wasn't a yacht, but it had two floors, and a deck on top. The boat was completely white, with Teller written across the side.
"I don't think it's even been used at all this summer." Justin said as he unlocked the doorway. I held his arm as he made his way inside. He held his hand out for me once he was completely inside.
"Whoa," I said again as I made it into the boat.
The walls were a pale yellow while the floors were dark and wooden. I immediately noticed the family portrait on the wall straight behind Justin. The portrait was of him, probably about four, with his mom and dad. I smiled at him, hoping he wouldn't have realized I had been staring at the picture. Justin set down the box of pizza on a counter in the kitchen, right next to the doorway we had come through.
Justin took out a slice of pizza and ate it happily. I hadn't gotten an appetite quite yet. I walked over to the kitchen table and sat down at one of the black, bar stools nailed into the floor. Justin wiped his hands on a napkin and turned to me.
"Would you like a tour of the place?" Justin closed the pizza box and shoved it into the fridge.
"Sure," I got up from the table and followed Justin past the kitchen, and into the living room.
He began pointing to things like he was a presenter on a gameshow, "This is the living room. Here you can find awkward childhood photos of me, as well as ugly, pale furniture." I giggled and sat down onto the couch.
"They're cute pictures." I said as Justin plopped down onto the couch next to me.
"What'd you think of the family portrait in the kitchen?" Justin kicked off his shoes and rested his arm on the top of the couch.
"You guys looked like a beautiful family." I turned towards Justin. I slowly wrapped an arm around his waist as I scooted closer to him.
"I thought so too." He looked down at his lap.
"Do you want to tell me about it?" I rested my head on his shoulder, the slightest action giving me butterflies.
"She left us. There's not much to really explain. She had an affair, left a note and she was gone. I was only eight. I saw her maybe a few different times after that, but I haven't seen or spoken to her in three years. After all this time, I find out she has a six year old son. She couldn't have said something six years ago? I guess that's why I've kind of been more of a brat than usual. She called my dad a couple weeks ago asking to speak to me." His jaw tightened, and he kept his glance away from me.
"I'm so sorry," I kissed his shoulder lightly. He looked back up at me, seeming to have regained his composure. He smiled.
"I'm over it." He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Do you know what you're going to do for college?"
"You, hopefully."
"Oh my god," I laughed and swatted at his arm.
"So...are you my girlfriend now?" Justin turned his body into mine and wrapped his arms around me.
"You haven't asked me yet." I answered.
"Okay....Cali Forsythe, will you be my girlfriend?"
I backed up, "I don't know. I'll have to think about it." I joked. Justin scooted closer to me.
"Cali," his voice deepened, and he stared at my lips.
"Are you just going to end up leaving and hurting me?" I said, suddenly turning the conversation serious, as he wrapped his arms around me in an attempt to get closer.
He looked up at me. "I couldn't ever think of it. I promise I won't...Are you going to do that to me?" He asked. I cupped his face in my hands.
"I couldn't dream of it. I won't, and that's not saying we couldn't eventually break up, but I'm definitely going to try my best to keep you around."
Justin beamed at me and pressed his lips against mine. It felt like our last kiss had been eternities ago, this one promising a new eternity, that was built to last together. As soon as he tried to deepen the kiss, my phone began to ring with Jake's ringtone. I pulled away reluctantly.
"I'm sorry. I have to answer. It's my brother." Justin smiled faintly in reply.
"Hello?" I answered my phone.
"Hey, where are you?" Jake sounded worried.
"I'm just hanging out. Um, why?" I was getting worried. Justin looked worried as he studied my face.
"Listen, can you come home?" It almost sounded like he was crying.
"Why? Jake, what is going on?" I stood up from the couch.
"Mary's gone." Jake's crying became evident.
"What do you mean she's gone?" I nervously bit down on my lip. Justin stood up and put a hand on my shoulder.
"She left, Cali. She left." He said through sniffles.
"I'll be right there."
