"Jesus, ah, sh--"
The young 22 year old flew forward, slamming her head on the steering wheel and coming back up with a gasp. Not only had she been hit head on, but some idiot had hit her from the back, too. Her car was going to be totaled and there was no way she wasn't going to feel this at work the next day.
Reaching out and feeling around for her phone, she finally grasped onto it and nearly cried. Now, not only was the back of her iPhone shattered, the screen was, too and she wasn't entirely sure the thing still worked. "T'was old anyway." She grunted, holding the home button down for a few seconds as she opened her door.
The second she tried to move one of her legs, however, she shrieked in agony.
"HELP!" She was finally able to scream, looking over and giving a small sigh of relief when she caught sight of a very tall figure making its way towards her. "Oh God, hello, could you please call the police?"
Her heart raced as the man came to stand before her, not saying a word.
"Hello?"

June 1st, 2006
The dumbfounded woman sat on the couch, crocheting a scarf as she let the news sink in.
Her daughter was, of all things, a witch.
She sat and thought back on Jade's childhood. Sure, a few odd things had happened; when Jade would get angry things would break out of nowhere. When Jade was happy, it was as if the entire room was glowing. When Jade was scared, something would attack whatever it was that Jade was scared of. She'd never thought of any of those things as being truly magical, but alas. Here they were.
She didn't want to send her kid to Hogwarts. She just didn't. She didn't want Jade to be that far away from her--it was Scotland for Christ's sake! But apparently, as she had been conceived in Europe and, therefore, had to learn to live and practice her magic there, the mother had no choice. She could move there, and be close to her daughter, but the fact of the matter was that she didn't have the money.
And really, she didn't want to.
She didn't want to be in Europe ever again. She couldn't remember what had happened the night Jade had been conceived, but she knew that she'd spent years trying to get over it. It was as if the memory were blocked by a cloud, a dark, thunderous cloud that she couldn't get past and didn't want to. The pain she had felt through the pregnancy and for a few years after was agonizing. She'd failed as a parent for a long time--her family had no problem letting her know that--but she had been doing better. And sending her daughter off to Europe, especially with the state of things in the Wizarding World right now, just did not feel right.
"His name is Tom Riddle." Professor Dumbledore had explained to her after Jade went away, presumably to start reading about the world she was now a part of. "He goes by the name Lord Voldemort, however. He is after people like your daughter, muggle borns. He doesn't see the value in muggles and doesn't want them mingling with our kind. He is slowly rising to power, but he has been weak ever since he tried to kill our savior."
"Tried?"
"After killing the boy's grandmother, he tried to kill the boy. The curse rebounded and hit him, but wasn't strong enough to kill him. He's still out there, lurking about and gaining followers as we speak."
