[ e v e l y n ]

me and danielle were on our way to school, with david driving in his police car. usually when i stayed with danielle we would take her car, but since the events from last night occurred david thought it'd be necessary to take us himself. plus, he said he had some business to do at the school this morning.

when we stopped, i hesitated before opening the door, seeing sarah hart's news van parked out front.

"it's alright, eve. it's school, you'll be safe here." david said, reassuringly.

dani jumped out of the car, running towards her boyfriend calum, jumping in his arms.

ignoring her, i say good bye to david before walking my way over to where sarah's van was parked. "don't come a step closer." sarah put her hand up after seeing me approach.

"i'm not here to fight. i just want to talk." i say, stopping in my tracks a few feet away from her.

she yells for her camera-man, paul i think, to come film what i have to say.

"off the record, no cameras." i cross my arms over my chest.

"then, go!" she snaps, pointing towards the campus grass.

"come on, you owe me!" i plead, putting my hands to my side.

"i owe you, shit." sarah spits.

"you owe my mother!" of course we both knew what i was referring to, her stupid book.

"alright," she sighed. "put up the camera, paul." the chubby man did as told, and sarah turned to face me. "your mother's murder was last years hottest case. someone was destined to write a book about it, and sorry it was me." she shrugged not looking very apologetic.

"yeah but it just had to be you, with your lies and bullshit theories." i shot back.

"what is your problem? you got what you wanted. jason mace is in jail, they're going to gas him. no book will change that." she pointed out.

"do you still think he's innocent?" i ask, slightly changing the subject.

"your testimony put him out. it doesn't matter what i think." she shrugged.

"but during the trial you told all those stories about how i was a liar." i knit my eyebrows together in concentration.

"yes, i do believe you falsely identified him." she nodded.

"have you even talked to jason?" i raised an eyebrow.

"oh, yes. many times." she nods.

"has his story changed?" i ask.

"not a word." she shrugs. "he admits to having sex with your mother, but nothing more or less."

"he's lying! she would never had touched him. he raped her, then killed her. her blood was all over his clothes." i explain.

"he was drunk the night of her murder. his jacket was there, and he left after your mother seduced him." sarah seemed pretty confident on her end.

"i saw him leave, wearing it." i ran a hand through my hair.

"no, evelyn. you saw someone leaving with that coat.. the same someone that framed mace, and put the coat in his car." it seemed she knew more about all of this than me.

"jason m-murdered my mother." i stuttered.

"you really aren't so sure anymore, are you?" she asked.

danielle comes to my side, pointing at sarah's face. "nice bruise, sweetie. let's go eve." she drags me away.

"those murders are related, i know it!" sarah yells as me and danielle begin to walk back to the school. i could still hear sarah talking to paul.

"an innocent man on death row, a killer on the loose, paul tell me i'm not dreaming!" she shouts, an exhilarating look on her face.

"wanna go live?" he asked, grabbing his camera.

"not just yet. we don't have it concrete hard on, yet," she paused, "if i am right, i will save jason's life! do you realize what that will do to my book sales?"

i scoffed, not being able to hear another word.

me, danielle, and calum stayed on school grounds for awhile. school hadn't started yet. we still had about fifteen minutes until the first bell and i wasn't exactly in a hurry to start the day.
