Chapter 7 - Count On Me

• Samantha •

Please be there. Please be there. Please be the -

She's not there. I slump back in my chair, disappointed. Why can't Evelyn be on Skype? I really need her right now. I need her advice, since I already know what Kylie and Maggie has to say about the case. "Date all of them, duh!" Kylie said. "Yeah, why not?" Maggie agreed. "You'll choose one of them eventually."

I was still a little angry at them for not being there for me when I was drunk, but considering they had been begging for my forgiveness all day, I couldn't just ignore them anymore. So they were thrilled when I asked them for advice, even though I made it clear they weren't forgiven just yet. It helped a little when Kylie told me she and Hunter had started dating, and Maggie and Justin hadn't broken up yet. Losing my dignity wasn't just a waste then.

Because I had indeed lost my dignity. Though I don't care what other guys think now that I have more than enough to think about with the current three boys, the texts on my cell and messages on Facebook is starting to get annoying. I don't even bother to answer the stupid ones, like "can you come dance with me?" or "how much for a lap dance?" or even "you're so sexy I'm gonna die just by looking at you". Yeah, right. Won't surprise me if the last one turn out to be from one of the nerds. Who else would find me sexy?

I have to admit though, it is a little flattering to be called sexy and hot. It's a big change from not getting attention from boys at all. But that's not what I want. What I want is to be called pretty, adorable or beautiful. If I find that kind of boy, then we can talk about answering texts. Oh, imagine a boy widening his eyes and saying 'you look lovely. Sigh.

Samantha, focus! I snap out of the daydream. Okay, so I need one more opinion on my boys "problem". I pick up my iPhone (yes, I'm Apple's biggest fan. Thank you, Steve Jobs!), ignore all the new texts (seriously, where do they get my number?!) and start to type a new one. I only send one single word, knowing she won't need anything else, like "How's the weather?" or "Isn't chihuahuas the cutest dogs?". I just write 'skype?'

Half a minute later she replies with: Sorry, can't. Computer's down. MSN on cell? I reply a quick OK and log onto MSN.

Wow, it's been ages since I've been here last. Even more wow is how many new friends requests I've got. I don't know who half of these people is. Hah! I don't know who any of these people is. I stop looking at them with wonder when a window pops up in the screen corner, telling me Evelyn has logged on. I click the chat button under her name, and the conversation starts:

Mani (I don't bother to use my whole name on MSN, it just looks so... long): Hi!

Ev: (her official nickname, though I prefer to call her Lynlyn. But it's only me and her family who uses it, so I only do it when I'm serious about something) Hi! What's up?

Mani: I need your advice. Do you have time?

Ev: Yeah, anything for you!

Mani: Do you remember I told you about Alex and Eric?

Ev: Yeah?

Mani: Well, there's this other boy, Ian...

Ev: Wow, you player!

I laugh out loud. Somehow Evelyn always manages to surprise me with her answers.

Mani: Hey, I am so not! Well, not intentionally... Anyway, all three of them kind of asked me out two days ago...

I make a face when I write it, but she can't see.
