Adrian felt the tears run down his face as the world around him burned.
A world he had just found. Without fear. Pain. Or rejection. The woods of the world above had been a sanctuary for him and a source of light in a life should thrive in darkness. The first time he had found it, he had sneaked away from his fathers home and found a old, forbidden path to the sky. He walked through the shadow and found his way to this world of wood, water and light.
And life.
Creatures that didn't feel the need to run at the sight of him or cry in fear at his touch. After being in the darkness with its empty, clinging embrace, this light was an entirely new way to live. And he loved it. When he found the small boy playing with a ball in a grove of trees, he found something else the darkness muffled, the joy of friendship. The boy had smiled and played with Adrian with all the joy that he felt.
Every day Adrian would feel the darkness recede more and more the boy played with his ball. That was until the boys parents saw Adrian for the first time. The hesitated and looked at his face strangely but smiled and talked with him.
It was great.
They agreed to meet again the next day. The fire was all the greeted Adrian instead of the warm smiles of human liars. The orange fear of the race that fears all other races that would destroy this world of light and life. And leave him again in the darkness.
