A long time ago, in a room lit dim, the young child learned that love was not fair. She opened eyes, and shut out her heart, as it really had no reason to be there.
A long time ago, in a room high above, lives a young child, deprived of love. He kept his heart open, as he knew not how to close. He tried running from everyone who didn't hold him so.
The girl was abused, tortured, and starved. If she thought back now, it burns, buts so far. At nine she learned not to cry out. When whipped, when hurt, when hungry, when sad. She stayed cold, numb, as it was all she knew, the only way to survive.
The boy was used, taken for granted. Mother and Father alike never gave him the love that was his to feel enchanted. He wrote story after story, hoping to be understood. But no matter how he tried, they always misunderstood.
She was raised to not know love. She was taught it was something she didn't deserve.
He was raised to love, and be loved. But not by those most important to him. His mother, crazed, hurting him mentally, and in a few physical ways. His father, his own man. Not caring about others feelings, do as he demands.
Woken up every morning to the belt against her shoulders. Not a single tear, not a single cry, but inside she crumbles. Woken up at 6, pushed outside in the cold without a coat. This she was used to though, as she had her chores, and wasn't allowed to use anything to keep warm. This was to make her work faster, and work faster she did.
Woken up every morning to the sound of his alarm. Cold, empty morning, his mind causing him harm. He numbly took his shower, and got ready for school. Ate breakfast, helped his siblings, and out the door to mix with the common gruel.
Inside she finally came, chores done, frozen all the same. She rushed around, and got ready for school. If the bus she missed, she would be forced to stay home and be tortured so cruel. Without a bite to eat, and no jacket to take, she bolted out the door, down the hill, hoping the bus didn't leave by mistake.
He sat in class, wishing he were anywhere but there. He joked around, acted fast, but couldn't wait till the day was done.
She sat quietly, numbly, on the hour long bus ride to school. Pretending to sleep, head against the window, she let go a few tears, making sure she was around no one. Arriving at school, she wiped them away. Rubbed her weary eyes, a placed a fake smile upon her face.
School was out, he rejoiced. Work, home, it was barely his choice. He had a busy schedule, that much was true. And not much time for himself, as everyone around him knew.
School was out, her heart twisted in pain. She stared out the window as the bus drove her home, silently hurting, so nobody knows. The bus left her off, and she stood still, watching it leave, forced to walk up the hill. Tears slipped, she walked slow. Chores and pain were waiting for her at home.
Finally off work, finally home. He was tired, hungry, and wanting someone to hold him close. Through the front door, everyone fed. No food left for him, just empty greeting instead. He felt numb, alone, stuck in his cycle. Nobody batted an eye, leaving him to find his mind on his own. He made food, he ate, and to his room he went. Closed the door, collapsed on the bed, and let go all the stress. He cried for an hour, just wanting love and appreciation to obsess. His room, the only place he felt free. The only place he could be himself, the only place he wanted to be. Video games distracted him, YouTube made him laugh. With nobody telling him hes worth it, he had to try to make his happiness last. As hard as it was, he tried. Never giving up, until he closed his eyes.
Through the door she quietly slipped. Put her bag on the banister, and wished for slit wrists. Up the stairs, she was ordered to check in whenever she came home. Knocking on the door of the monsters cave, she heard "come in". Half an hour later, on her hands and knees. The kitchen smells of pine-saw, as it was what she was using to clean. A small rag in her hand, a bucket of hot water beside her. She worked hard, tried to work fast, as three minutes left blinked on the timer. Timer goes off, she stops, knows what she has to do. If she doesn't bring the stick to the monster right away, more beatings will go through. She stands, wipes her hands off, and grabs the stick next to the door. Slowly she walks into the monsters cave, and hands it the tool. Ordered to grab her ankles, she clenched her jaw. Eyes closed, mind blank, she tried to ignore it. Last time it was ten, this time the monster hit her twenty. Told to go faster, or more would turn into plenty. Trying not to sob, trying not to cringe, the monster gives her the stick, she puts it back in place, heads to the timer, and once again sets it for ten minutes. As she pushes start, as she takes a breath, she closes her eyes, and wishes for a rest. Without anytime to spare, she slowly got back down. Grabbed the cleaning rag from before, and scrubbed all around.
