"Wavellite. I want you to be careful." Epidote whispered with tears in her eyes. They

were hiding behind a rock from the rebel gems trying to hurt them. "I can't risk them getting to you. I just-"

"Epidote." Wavellite said, cutting her off. "I'll be ok. I promise." Epidote was normally calm and serious, but the effects of the war they were in the middle of were getting to her. It was up to Wavellite to help her.

"The only way to defeat them is to form Variscite. She's strong a-and I think she can help." The two were completely against the war. The gems from Homeworld had started a war against the gems who decided to protect Earth. They knew the Homeworld gems wanted The Kindergarten, which would eventually wipe all life from Earth. Wavellite and Epidote didn't want that. However, they didn't want to protect Earth either. All they wanted was to be alive together.

"But Wavellite, that will make us just as bad as them."

"I need to protect you, Ep! I care about you. I don't want anyone to hurt you. Let's just fuse and see what happens, alright?" Epidote nodded and stood up. She held out her hand to Wavellite and helped her stand. A moment later, a bright light shone as they came together as one. A seventeen foot tall blue and green woman stood where they once had. Variscite. She summoned Wavellite's mace from the gem on her back and Epidote's falchion from the gem on her stomach. She brought them together and formed her spiked sword.

"Let's do this." She rushed through the crowds of gems fighting, hitting the ones who tried to stop her. Bodies retreated to their gems all around, some of them getting shattered before the could regenerate. They would never be able to come back. Other gems that were regenerating were cracked. They were corrupted and would come back as hideous monsters. Variscite stopped in her tracks. The sight made her body start to split open.

"No, we can do this." she said to herself, pushing her body back together. Nothing could stop her. She needed to make it over to the warp pad so she could get back home. She was almost there when a muscular orange gem with wild hair stepped in front of her. Variscite was so surprised that she was hit in the back by another gem, causing her to unfuse. Wavellite and Epidote tumbled onto the ground.

"Jasper!" Epidote whispered fiercely.

"So you think you can run, don't you?" Jasper asked with her low, raspy voice. "Because you were a fusion you think you were better? You two are a disgrace to the Homeworld."

"We don't want to be a part of this, Jasper." Wavellite said with a tremble in her voice. Jasper laughed menacingly. "We want to go home. Just let us get to the warp pad.

"You two are such cowards, I'm not surprised. I'm shocked that you didn't join the leader of the rebels. What was her name? Ah yes, Rose Quartz. Why didn't you join Rose Quartz? She's as shameful as you."

"Leave us alone, Jasper." Epidote commanded, standing up.

"Epidote, don't fight her! She's too strong!" Wavellite advised. She brought herself to her feet. It was hard for her to stand. The impact on her gem had caused it to crack. She could already feel herself losing the ability to live.

"Stay back, Wavellite. I can handle this. Get to the warp pad. I'll be fine." Wavellite collapsed to her knees. She wouldn't go to the warp pad even if she could. She needed to help Epidote, who was summoning her falchion from the gem on her stomach. She just didn't have the power to get up.

"Oh, so you want to fight?" Jasper said, smirking. She grabbed a battleaxe that was laying on the ground and summoned her helmet. "I'd like to see you try to win." Jasper was an excellent fighter, even better than Epidote. However, Epidote was faster, and dodged Jasper's attacks while Wavellite watched helplessly.

"I... won't... let...you...win....this!" Jasper yelled, delivering a final blow. They axe went right through Epidote. Her physical form disappeared. All that was left was her gem on the ground.

"Now that's one less punk to worry about." Jasper grumbled. She crushed the olive green gem under her foot and began to walk off, throwing the axe far away. She stopped in her tracks and turned her head.

"Just be lucky you weren't next." she sneered. Tears fell out of every one of Wavellite's four eyes. Epidote was gone. She forced herself to stand and took every agonizing step it took to the shards of Epidote.

"I needed to protect you," she whimpered. "I failed you, Ep." She fell to the ground and picked up every piece of green gem. She held them to her face. Epidote was gone forever.

Wavellite dragged herself and the shards of her companion to the warp pad. She warped to the Galaxy Warp, where more gems were fighting. No one noticed her presence. She watched the battles of good and bad. What were good and bad? All of the gems out here were bad. They hurt each other. They might be fighting for a good cause, but it was still fighting. Gems should live together in peace. Wavellite crawled off of the warp pad and onto the ground. She couldn't go home. Not without Epidote. She laid on the ground with gem shards in her hand, waiting. She eventually was hit with a spear and retreated into her gem. A pink shield hit her gem. It was cracked all the way through. She was just like Epidote. There was no coming back.

Note

Shattered is a story based on the cartoon "Steven Universe." All characters except for Jasper and Rose Quartz were made by the author of this story. The concept of "Steven Universe" completely belongs to Rebecca Sugar, the rest of the animation team, and Cartoon Network.  Also, this is a stupid little story I wrote in about 30 minutes so it's not so great. :3
