Alex was cleaning tables. Not really cleaning more like dusting. No one came to Mrs Lovetts Pie Shop. Well considering what her pies tasted like.
He walked to the other room a sitting room part of the house. Annabelle was in there reading. "Hello Annabelle." he said sitting on the couch next to her.
She closed her book and set in her lap. "Another empty day?"
Alex nodded. Then the ring of a customer entering the shop startled them. "Well I guess we have one now" Annabelle smiled and got up walking into the shop. Alex and Annabelle could hear Mrs Lovett talk and talk and talk to the poor fool. He probably would just like to eat and go.
Annabelle swiftly returned to her seat next to Alex on the couch. He heard Mrs Lovett say "It's gonna take more then ale to get that taste out of your mouth dear. Follow me"
Mrs Lovett walked in followed by the customer. He didn't look to friendly. Alex shifted in his seat as the customer's dark stare looked over him and Annabelle. Mrs Lovett handed him a drink then sat in a chair.
He sat in the other seat across from the couch. He finished the drink quickly then said. "You have a room above this shop here, times are so hard why do you rent it out?" he asked.
"People think its haunted" she said
"Haunted?" he gave a questioning glance.
"They say years ago something happened up there, something not very nice" Alex and Annabelle knew what story she was going to tell. The one of Benjamin and Lucy Barker, his parents.
He had heard the story so many times before. But no one ever told the rest of it about him and Johanna. The two children who had their whole life ripped away by one man.
Mrs Lovett was coming to and end. And the customer screamed "No!" and stood up. His expression pained and angry. "Would no one have mercy on her?"
Mrs Lovett's eyes grew wide. "So he is here. Benjamin Barker."
Alex gasped his father was standing right in front of him.
"No not Barker. Its Todd now Sweeney Todd. And he will have his revenge."
Alex stood up. Mrs Lovett nervously glanced at him. "I-I'm Alexander... Barker..."
Sweeney looked at him with dark eyes. "What did you say?" he murmured
"I'm the son of Benjamin and Lucy Barker. I'm Alexander Barker."
A cold glance turned shocked and confused. "I only have one child. Johanna-"
"No, nine months after your banishment I was born." Alex interrupted. Sweeney shook his head he didn't know really what to say.
"And finally you came home..." Alex smiled. He had no attachment to his father. He had never met him. But he was deeply happy he'd return.
They both stood speechless. "Mr Todd... I have something for you." Mrs Lovett said standing up. "Annabelle, Alex. Stay here." she said leading Sweeney outside and up to the barber shop.
"T-That's your father." stuttered Annabelle. "You don't have as much resemblance as mother always said you share."
"Those years had changed him I'm sure. He is nothing as mum described."
Annabelle nodded. "He gives me the chills" Annabelle shivered, thinking about Sweeney's dark unfeeling eyes. "Just the look in his eyes..."
"Maybe we can get him back?"
~~~
Alex slowly walked up to Sweeney's shop. Mrs Lovett and Annabelle were both in the shop waiting for customers.
Alex opened the door, the bell preventing it from being an unnoticed entrance.
Sweeney turned from the large window and looked at Alex.
"Hello father..." Alex mumbled, almost fearfully. His father's eyes weren't empty and lifeless like before. They were cold, hate filled, a gleam of hurt shone in them.
"Can you explain something to me?" Todd said stepping back and turning all the way from the window and now directly facing Alexander.
Alex swallowed hard and nodded nervously.
"Why is Johanna with the judge... But you're here." he tone grew firm and a little menacing.
"Turpin... Only wanted Johanna. She saved me, she found out Turpin was going to try to kill me in an 'accident'. She brought me here." he said
Sweeney looked back out the window. "Shes still there? She didn't stay?"
"She couldn't... Turpin would have found her..."
"That makes sense..." he muttered.
A silence fell upon them.
Alex turned but before he walked out the door he quietly said "I'm sorry"
