Have you ever wondered what society would be like if there was no pain? If one day, someone came up to you and said, " Listen to me now, come with me and you'll never feel hunger or pain. Come! There's not much time." Would you go? My parents said yes. My parents wanted me to live in that future, a place with no harm. It was 2050. Temperatures were extremely high. I'm talking about 80°F at Christmas. In Long Island, New York. There was barely any island when I was there. That was 15 years ago. The island is no longer there. How did the world get to this? I don't know. As soon as they said 'yes' to that man, our future was given to The Pleasure's Experiment. We arrived there and this was a paradise. You could smell every individual meal, it seemed. But we couldn't go there until my parents had check ups and a vaccine to protect against MRSA. I was taken to a room full of toys. We had a story time with a nice lady. I can't recall her name , but she had red hair, very tangled and dry. She had brown eyes, like bowls of chocolate. The story was about how these little bugs lived together. But one day, the ants decided to take over. This wasn't good because they got food only for ants because they were too mean and they didn't care about the other bugs. So some bugs went to Playland and the ants got sad because Playland was much better than Antland and they couldn't go in. Then the ants moved away. The End. The lady said that we were the bugs that went to Playland and we should forget what was happening before we came here because all the bad things were ants and if we remembered the ants, they would ruin Toyland. I felt bad for the baby ants because they didn't know what was happening. It wasn't their fault their mommies and daddies were bad guys. What if they could be good? I asked the boy next to me. He looked mad and told me to shut up. I thought the teacher would say something but she didn't. That made me think that this place did have pain. It wasn't happiness and rainbows. It was pretend. They were pretending nothing was bad here. I didn't pay attention the rest of the day. Our parents came and got us. My mom and dad came finally. They looked ...... happy? But a weird happy. Like playful but a weird grown up playful. Parents weren't supposed to chase butterflies and act like puppies. I didn't care. I thought this was much better than the daycare I was at. So we played in the park. We feed the ducks and played tag. Then we went to the huge cafeteria. It was more of a buffet. I got pizza with pineapples on it. I really thought at the moment that this was the happiest day. But it wasn't. It was the first day of everyday. Everyday was the same after that. I was bored of it. I was thirteen when my parents didn't pick me up. I was scared. So I asked the teacher if I could call them. She looked at me with such ferocity, I thought that if she stared long enough, I would melt. " Fine. The telephone is right there. Hurry up we have to close the power off soon.", she said. I ran to the phone and called my mom. No answer. My dad. No answer. The house. No answer. Work. Nothing. I banged the numbers in they made a noise and echoes. The echoes filled the hall and no answer. I knew no one here. No one wanted me other than my parents and they didn't seem fazed when I told them my troubles. " It'll get better tomorrow." And it didn't because the next day was the same. Echoes of numbers. Echoes of fear. Echoes of tears. Echoes of rings that were never answered. It was dark and finally, I pressed the next number and called. Still no answer. The lights turned off. "HEY! Kid,let's go. Walk home, you'll be fine.", she yelled. I went out the door and ran. I wasn't running home. I was running. My heart was beating and I could hear it in my head. I stopped. There was light and then, there was dark. And nothing else for a while.
