Shree Bhagavad Gita contains 700 verses in present days. But initially the holy book contained 748 verse.
In the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when Arjuna - A Pandava, requested to observe all those who gathered with desire to fight on the side of Duryodhana - A Kaurava, Krishna drove his chariot to a point between the two armies. On seeing the members of both the armies - grandfathers, fathers-in-law, uncles, brothers and cousins, sons and grandsons, comrades, friends and teachers, Arjuna filled deep sympathy and spoke dolefully that he would be family destroyer and whole clan would be annihilated. So Krishna made convincible arguments with Arjuna. In Chapter 10, Krishna explained his various personalities and compared the same with the various Vedic Gods.
Now thinking logically, war between Kauravas and Pandavas were fought for 18 (eighteen) days. But in the battle field this all the arguments of 18 Chapters between Krishna and Arjuna were made for only 45 minutes. In these 45 minutes Krishna motivated Arjuna for the material and moral struggle, the psychological war and the spiritual battle. Questions should be raised now in every one's mind that in the battle field, when both the armies were on field and war was going to begin, two persons argued and conversation up to 700 or might be 748 verses made.
Let's calculate mathematically, how much time would be taken for 700 or 748 verses. Approximately for one verse 20 seconds time consume. So for three versus one minute time would be taken. But when two persons argued with each other, instead of three maximum two verse could be spoken. So for 700 verses approximately 350 minutes will be taken means average five to six hours would be wasted on the field. When both the armies were ready to fight with each other, how could one warrior waste the whole day or 5-6 hours without war on the field.
Now looking to the other side, as we explained earlier that the argument time was for just 45 minutes, maximum 90 to 100 verses could be conversed. Research of ancient scholars said that only 70 verses were conversed and not 700 or 748. Commentary on 70 verses became 748 and due to foreign invasion 48 verses disappeared and 700 verses remained as arguments between Arjuna and Krishna.
In these 700 verses some words or sentences used and interpretation made is very important to understand spiritually, myth logically, historically, geologically or on the basis of other logics. After explaining to Arjuna, he was not satisfied and argued further which was in verse 13 to 18 in Chapter 10 and Krishna replied him in verse 19 to 40 in the same chapter. Some logical questions raised by many scholars. Some of them are highlighted here.
