Running away from sun wolves was not on my list of things I wanted to do on my birthday. My day started off pretty regular, I mean I stayed in my part of the wolf den while mom and Jakie were in the kitchen tearing apart a rabbit they found. Then it  happened so suddenly I didn't have time to think. As I lay on my bed I heard howls and whimpers come from the kitchen. My whole body tensed and I quickly got up, normally my family never howled unless there was trouble. Instinctively I ran to the kitchen, only that I saw it was surrounded by sun wolves. At least a dozen of them.

"What do you want?" I growled at them as I searched the area for my mother and sister.

"We want you Carter Night." Said a wolf much bigger than the rest, obviously the alpha.

"Well you can't have him!" Yelled my mother.

"Shush it, you know exactly why we're here you can't keep pretending like he's one of you forever!" He growled back.
"Now Carter, your mother and sister can live all you have to do is come with us." I knew what I had to do, though I wasn't sure if it would cost me my life. I heard stories in how aggressive sun wolves can be. My thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of whimpering from my little sister.

"DON'T TOUCH HER!" I yell as I rush toward the leader ready to attack. Suddenly I heard a wicked laugh and I turn around to see one of the smaller wolves tear at my mothers neck.
"No!" I wails as I slow down my pace all my attention on my mom.
Suddenly I hear another cry and I see they are doing the same thing to my sister. My mom and Jakie lay dead at the mouths of sun wolves.

"We could've done this the easy way Carter Night, but you chose to try and attack."

"No," I say " I will not go with you!" I turn around and ran towards the entrance of the den.
