Chapter Eighteen

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Shut the fuck up.

Opening my eyes I could see nothing but all white panels at first, but as I sat up I found myself in a bed enclosed four white walls and attached to a tube that's had red flowing through it.

"You're awake." A man with an attractive beard and a doctors uniform on. "I'm Doctor Mattison, do you know why you are here?" He asked me as he looked up from his clipboard.

At first I stared, then I thought. "Got bit by a snake, did I not?"

"That's correct. You suffered severe effects from the bite but don't worry, you're going to be okay. We're thinking you'll be out in the next few days." The doctor told me as he scribbled on his clipboard. Not even going to lie, he was lowkey kinda hot even though he was probably about seven years older than me with a wife and a kid on the way. "I just need to ask you a few questions first, we've still not managed to reach your parents. Your friends weren't exactly filled with information."

"Lmao they aren't really my friends, I met them on Saturday." Did I really just say lmao in a sentence, out loud? "They won't know anything." I gave the doctor my address and he left with the information to go phone my parents. I hadn't even brought my phone and they were going to be super mad. God dammit.

A quiet knock tapped on the door and in wandered Jade with the others. She looked like she'd been crying which was weird because I'd spent around ten hours in her company and I didn't think we were that attached to each other yet.
I'm not good at this friendship thing.

"Hey Mila." She said in a quiet voice as she walked into the room; followed by the others. Why was Luke even here? He probably told the snake to do it. Some Harry Potter shit going on right there. "How are you feeling?" This medicine was driving me bat-shit crazy.

"I'm okay." I replied, examining myself.   I had tubes coming out of me left, right and center but I didn't know, didn't want to know, what they where for. The less I know the better I feel.

"That's good. You scared us all shitless." The blonde guy chipped in. Tay or Jace? I had no idea. "We all thought you were going to die or something."

"Shut up." Jade hissed at him and slapped his chest. "We weren't sure what was going to happen. Snake bites are some serious shizzle my friends." Either I'm on some trippy medication or Jade just imitated snoop dog.

"Where is she?!" We all turned to look as two sweaty being burst into my ward and drew to a halt. "Mila!" My father was sweaty and his jacket was hanging off his right shoulder. Rushing over he and my mother pulled me into their arms. Everything became a slight whirl wind as doctors came running in, probably assuming my parents where slightly delusional by their entry. Not the best first impression.
"My baby!' My mother cried and hugged my tighter, kissing the side of my head and getting lipstick on my face.
My father let go and stood up from the bed. "Which one of you fuckers did it?" I'd never heard him swear before in my life. "Who thought it was a good idea to invite her out and take her to some random forest?" He stared at all of them. "I bet it was you!" He shouted, pointing a short, nail bitten finger at Luke. "You're the idiot from the car crash, Mila I told you not to go near him." My father pounced on Luke and grasped his shirt in a tight first as Luke backed up against the wall; looking pretty terrified if I do say so myself. "I swear to god if it was you-"
"Sir we're going to have to ask you to leave if you don't let go." The lowkey good-looking doctor said to my father. He didn't loosen his grip.
"I'm going to beat the shit out of you, you little fucker. This is all your fault." My father spat, all up in Luke's face.
"Sir you need to leave."

"Just go." My mother sobbed, clearly overwhelmed by the whole situation. My father turned to look at her and he suddenly let go of Luke, causing Luke to have a massive sigh of relief. My father nodded before leaving the room and we all stood in awkward silence.

"I think it's also time you all left, Mila needs her rest." The doctor told Jade and the rest of them. They nodded and were ushered out quietly without so much as a goodbye. My mother sniffed as she dragged a chair over and sat at the side of the hospital bed that I lay in.
"Mila what's happening?" She asked, head between hands. "We didn't know where you were; we called you didn't answer; we asked the neighbors, they'd seen nothing. What is happening with you?"

"I don't know." Seeing your own mother being reduced to tears and knowing its your fault is the worst feeling in the entire world. "I have no idea."

"I know you sneaked out the other night." She blurted out.
"What?"
"I know you sneaked out to be with your friends, I know you brought him back and then let him out the next again morning."
Did I deny or tell the truth? A question I seemed to be asking myself a lot recently.
"How did you know?"
"Mila do you think I'm stupid." She asked, sitting back and wiping her eyes. "I know that car accident wasn't anyone's fault. And I know you went out to that party; probably got wasted and probably got high and brought that boy back into your room. I knew they were in your wardrobe."
"But how?"
"Mila, I was once a teenage girl as well. Everything you're doing, I probably wrote the handbook to it. It's okay, I don't expect you not to do these things but please don't lie to me about it."
"I'm so sorry." I sobbed. I hadn't even realized I was crying.
"And what about this Luke kid?"
"I was just a stupid bet to him." I muttered, scratching my arms; all I wanted to do was rip the tube out.

"A what!?" My mother looked angry. "A bet? Who does that boy think he is?"
"I don't know, just forget about it."
"Oh I don't think so. That boys has got everything coming to him. He's going to get the wrath of mother now."
