Can't Sleep - short story

The rain fell lightly on the pavement outside, "Ugh! Why can't I sleep?" you wondered to yourself as you turned over on the mattress again. The sheets are a mess, your pillow is at your feet and you can hear Luke snoring which doesn't help you sleep.

You decide to get a glass of warm milk, hoping it would help you get to sleep. So you tiptoe down the stairs and to the kitchen. The brightness of the light pierces your eyes but you soon get used to it. As you are drinking some milk, there is a sudden noise. You pause and quietly set the glass down.

A dark figure emerges from the shadows at the doorway, "Danny!" a wave of relief washes over you, "Hey y/n", he smiles, "Are you ok?" "Yeah just having trouble sleeping," you reply, "Is it the rain?" he asked, "I think it's turning into a storm." "Yeah," you say. There is a pause. "Do you want to sit down?" "Sure," you reply so you both go into the living room and sit on the couch.

"What's really bothering you?" he asks. You are not sure how to answer because really there is nothing wrong, you just can't sleep. At least that's what you hope it is, "I'm actually not really sure," you say, "Something is keeping me awake and it's not the storm." "Maybe it is something at the back of your head?" Danny offered, "Maybe. Well... Talking to you is kind of making me feel better," you yawn, "That's good," he says quietly, "I'm actually getting tired now..." you realise, "Oh. Really? Maybe we should get you back to bed," he said gently "No I'm fine," you say, not wanting the moment to end.

Sitting on the couch with Danny was really nice, it made you feel warm and fuzzy inside for some reason. Most of all it helped you get to sleep.

The others found both of you the next morning huddled together on the couch.
