A Bitter Sweet End (Part 8)

"Not Ursula, not my beloved Ursula!" Dodong shouted, cried and pleaded with the doctors, with his Uncle Penoy, with Juan, and with God. Uncle Penoy told him to be strong for his child.

Since Dodong cannot think straight. Uncle Penoy and Juan were the one who took care of Ursula's wake and the hospital release of the baby. When they ask Dodong the name of their baby girl,

Dodong remembered his conversation with Ursula while she was embroidering the initials of their baby's name in a cloth. "Gusto kong ipangalan sa baby natin ay Dora. Mula sa pangalan ng mga nanay natin." (Do-first two letter of Dorothy and Ra-last two letter of Isadora)

"Gusto ko sana idagdag mo ang pangalan mo. Gawin natin Dora Ursula. Dahil kayo ang mga babaeng importante sa buhay ko." Dodong replied.

So Ursula embroidered the initials DUB, B stands for Dodong's last name.

Uncle Penoy called his parents over the phone and told them the bad news. He asked for them to come and comfort their son. Dorothy (Dodong's mother) told Penoy they will be there as soon as she gets her salary next week. She ask him to continue taking care of Dodong.

Dodong went into heavy drinking in the coming days. He wants to feel numb so he won't think of Ursula. He did not look for a minute on her casket because he was in denial. But on the day of the funeral, they were able to convince him to send off Ursula in her final resting place. Dodong's tears kept on falling. He cannot believe that his beloved wife died. He promised to take care of Dora Ursula, their daughter.

Dorothy (Jose) felt the need to tell Isadora (Paolo) the bad news about her daughter passing away. She knows that as a mother, it is her right to know what happened to her daughter. So gathering her strength, she went to the Explorers Mansion to tell the news. She saw Isadora and told her that Ursula died because of giving birth.

Isadora was shocked by the news and blamed Dorothy and her son Dodong for what happened to her child. She asked Dorothy to leave. Before Dorothy left, she gave a piece of paper to Isadora which tells the address of Dodong and Ursula.

Isadora cried a lot after Dorothy left. She has mixed emotions: sadness, emptiness, longing, anger, regret, helplessness, denial. After a while, she calmed down. She looked at the piece of paper that Dorothy left. She decided she can't wait for her sisters to comeback from their out of the country vacation. She will go there alone.

When Isadora arrived in the town of Estancia, she found out that Ursula was buried. After visiting Ursula in the cemetery, Isadora looked for the house where Dodong and Ursula lives. She wanted to confront Dodong for what happend to Ursula.

When she arrived in their house. She noticed that the gate and the door was opened. She can hear a baby crying. When she entered the room, she saw the baby on the crib crying without someone looking after her. She went to the kitchen and found Dodong asleep on the table, drunk. Isadora got more angry and with a quick decision, she took the baby crying and went out fast.

A few minutes after Isadora left with the baby, Uncle Penoy went inside the house. He just went out to buy milk for the baby, since it was an infant milk he had a hard time looking for it.

"Baby, eto na ang milk mo. Pasensya na at natagalan ako. Hirap hanapin ng milk mo eh." Uncle Penoy said while preparing the milk. "Naku nakatulog ata sa kaiiyak."

Then he looked at the crib and got the horror when he found out that the baby is not in the crib. He immediately woke up Dodong and told him his daughter was missing. Dodong's drunkenness got lost and he immediately stood up and went out to find the baby.

All day long, they asked their neighbors if they have seen his baby but no one knows. Dodong felt so depressed because of his helpless situation. The following morning they reported the case to the police. While he and his Uncle was sitting infront of their gate after looking for the baby the whole day, a friend of Ursula happened to pass by. They asked her if she has seen someone who took his baby. She told him, she remembered that someone ask her about their house yesterday morning. Dodong ask Ursula's friend what she looks like. She said she looks like an older version of Ursula and looks like a very rich person. Dodong had an idea who took his baby.

Dodong decided to go back to their province and take back her daughter from the one who took her.
