Chapter 1
I’m walking down the street of Manhattan New York. Staring up at the beautiful sky line straight ahead of me. I feel a rain drop hit my bare shoulder and run down the side of my arm to the tip of my finger. I stare up at my future right through the door and to my left. I walk in and tell myself,
“I’ll do great. Stay positive don’t think of the things ill mess up on.”
Oh no I’m doing it being negative what if I forget! What if they hate me!
Breath I’ll do fine.
I walk into the auditorium its empty beside the first row lined with three intimidating people one guy who’s wearing a blue bow tie and a brown jacket and has really curly brown hair. Two woman one wearing a black form fitting dress with a pearl necklace and her hair in a big blond bun! And the last lady is wearing a black pant suit!
Was I supposed to dress nice? I think to myself. No, I’m in a dance audition for the biggest arts school in New York. Of course there supposed to dress fancy.
“Valerie gates!” the lady with the pant suit yelled
I ran to the stage.
“Hi I’m Valerie!”
“What will you be performing?” the guy with the bow tie asked
“A contemporary dance to skinny love by Bon Iver.”
“Ok you may begin”
He started the song. And I began to panic inside. I think I forgot the dance! But as I started to move to the music it all came back. It felt as if I was in my own world with no one watching me or judging me but that all ended when the guy with the bow tie yelled “stop the music!” I stared at them worried of what they were going to say.
“Valerie, tell me, where have you danced?” the woman with the blond bun asked
“My mom owned a dance studio called Mickel gates. I danced there as a child.”
“Well Valerie you are amazing. And we would love to have you dance here this summer for our dance program!”
“Thank you so much! This means a lot!”
“We will send you all the information in the mail. We can’t wait to see what else you can do.”
As I walked out I nearly scream! I can’t believe I get to stay in Manhattan all summer doing what I love to do. As I try to wave down a cab a guy runs straight into me. He knocks me straight into a puddle making me drop my bag into the street. Like cant he tell I’m standing hear. He sticks his hand out to help me up. I refuse to take his hand as I stand up on my own. He hands me my wet bag. I think great a matching wet bag to go with my soaking wet clothes, how chic!
“Sorry” he says blushing. I think to myself he’s kind of cute. “My names Blake.”
I shake my boot thinking it will dry but I’m wrong so I stand there for a minute staring at his bright blue eyes.
“Oh, it’s ok. I was in your way!” I’m so lying right now.
“No I’m just so clumsy I never watch wear I’m going.” He says as his cheeks grow pinker. Geez he’s so cute I can’t be mad at him!
I giggle a little “my names Valerie”
“Valerie” he says repeating me “I like that name.”
“Thank you!” I say. Oh gosh I think I might be blushing also.
“Well would you want to get some coffee sometime?”
Right before I was about to answer I felt something shaking me. Then this moment started to blur away. Oh gosh I know what’s happening, I’m waking up.
“No, no wait I’m not ready to wake up!”
I opened my eyes and stared straight into those little demon eyes.
“Mom told me to wake you up and tell you…..”
“Jake what did mom tell you to tell me?”
“Oh right she wanted me to tell you that you have one hour to get ready. Its Monday genius!”
“Oh my gosh my alarm didn’t go off!”
Jake my ten year old bother starts walking around my bed staring at my walls like it’s some kind of memorial.
“Jake get out!” I scream
“I haven’t been in your room since dad left.”
“Well I need to get ready. So get out!”
He turns around and stares at me like I’m a monster or something. He takes one more look around my room and stomps out.
