Chapter 2

I walk into class almost thirty minutes late. I would have been on time if my little sister Alicia hadn’t spilt all my coffee on my outfit. So I had to change my clothes and run all the way to school. I also would have a ride if once again I hadn’t had to change.

“Nice of you to join us.” Mrs. Reed said

I smile and walk to my seat. I drop my bag on the floor and I hear someone giggling behind me and I know exactly who it is. Virginia Walker. I don’t even like saying her name. She’s the most preppy stuck up girl in this school. She thinks that just because her daddy owns every amusement park in the state of California doesn’t mean she needs to be rude all the time. But that’s just my opinion.

I turn around to look at her. Sometimes I am jealous of her though. She has the perfect blond hair with bright blue eyes and the perfect style. I know no one is perfect but I guess if you look up the word perfect in the dictionary her face would show up.

“What’s so funny?”

“Oh we were just talking about how you have a mustache drawn on your face!”

“What!” I scream

I grab my compact mirror out of my backpack and look at what I missed when I was rushing to do my hair. Yes, there was a mustache drawn on my face in purple marker. Jake must have done it before he woke me up. But why didn’t my mom or Alicia tell me! Urgg I can’t just sit here all day with a bright purple mustache drawn on my face. I raise my left hand to my upper lip and I raise my right hand to get my teachers attention.

“Yes Valerie?” Mrs. Reed answers

“May I go to the bathroom?”

“Quickly!”

I run out of the room to the bathroom and stare into the mirror. I can’t believe Jake would do this. But even more shocking is that I didn’t even notice it all morning. I scrub it off, luckily it was washable marker.

I walk back into class right when the bell rings. I grab my stuff and head to my locker. While I’m walking Jason, my best friend, comes running up to me.

“Hey shorty!”

“I said don’t call me shorty!”

“Well you are short.”

“Yeah yeah I and everyone already know. You don’t need to remind me.” I say irritated

“Ohhh someone’s grumpy today.”

“Yeah well I’m not having the brightest day.”

“Ok I’m sorry, what’s going on?”

Jason is the only person I can actually talk to besides my best friend lacy. Us three together are like the three musketeers. I’ve known them both since I was in second grade.

“Well I woke up late, Jake drew a mustache on my face and I didn’t realize it tell Virginia walker had to tell me in front of everybody. “

“Oh well todays bout to get a whole lot better because tomorrows the dance and I heard from many sources that Seth is going to ask you!”

“Are you serious?”

“Do I look like I’m joking” he says with a straight face

“Omg were is lacy?”

“Talking to Ms. Fawn about her grade.”

“Thanks I’ll see you late” I yell running off with a big grin on my face. That’s when I run straight into Seth and nearly knock him over.

“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry I wasn’t paying attention.”

“No worries. Hey I was wondering do you have a date to the dance tomorrow night.”

I look behind me to see Jason smiling and laughing at me knowing he was right.

“Uh no why?” that was stupid of course I know why he’s asking.

“Because I wanted to see if you would want to go with me?”

“Yes! I mean yeah I would love to!” I say blushing

“Great ill pick you up at seven.”

“Okay!” I say walking away slowing breaking off into a run towards lacy who is walking straight toward me with an annoyed look on her face.

“I hate Ms. Fawn” she nearly screams

“Why?” I say gasping for breath

“Because she gave me a D on my history test and won’t let me retake it.”

“Oh I’m sorry. But guess what!”

“What?” she says annoyed

“Seth just asked me to the dance!”

“Yeah I know.”

“How do you know, wait how does everyone know and I didn’t, tell just now?”

“Because it’s not like everyone’s just going to tell you. Oh yeah Valerie Seth is going to ask you to the dance today.” She says sarcastically
