Chapter Fifty-Seven: A Fatherly Instinct & Change of Mind

Dean Ambrose had been nervous many times throughout his life. He had been nervous the day he had taken the test to qualify for his driver's license. He had been thoroughly nervous when he debuted in the independent world of wrestling in 2004. He had been totally nervous when he had walked through a strawberry patch in England not even a year ago. But in his mind, those things were now just minute and miniscule. They were pathetic. Now he had something that he was extremely nervous about: attempting to prove to Brittany's father that he was truly worthy to be the one and only man in his daughter's life...again.

Sitting inside of the lobby, Dean kept anxiously glancing at his watch. Mr. Cena was supposed to show up at any given moment. It was a bright and warm morning in Dallas. Dean had tried to beg Brittany to tag along, but she refused, saying that this was something that he had to handle alone. So that's when Dean knew that he had to make an outstanding impression this afternoon. I fall stereotypical ways applied, he would get a full report after Wrestlemania. But he knew one thing for certain: should he fail in his quest, he would not let that stop him from being with Brittany.Nothing could.

Before Dean could get up and begin to pace, the elevators doors opened, and out stepped John Cena Sr.

John Cena Sr. was a remarkable yet fierce man. He always wanted the utmost respect from all that knew him and was a noteworthy wrestling promoter. Sometimes the man could be a little rough around the edges, but at the end of the day, he became the loveable father that everyone cared for. Dean knew for a solid fact that John Cena Sr. and Brittany had the closest father-daughter bond in the world, yet it still mystified him how she had managed to make it through eighteen years having been raised by him and never once falling for the lustrous world of professional wrestling. And he wasn't such a bad hand with car parts either.

"Good afternoon, Jon," Mr. Cena greeted as he offered a hand for Dean to shake.

"It's good to see you, sir," Dean replied, trying to stop his voice from cracking.

"Are you alright? You seem...flustered."

"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine. Everything's fine. Just a little pre-Raw jitters." Dean lied.

Mr. Cena looked at him with surprise and suspicion in his eyes. For one moment, Dean thought that he was not going to believe him. But Mr. Cena soon laughed his hearty laugh and clapped him on the back.

"It's nice to know that my own daughter's boyfriend is intimidated by me. Come on, Jon. Let's go eat lunch."

One of the nicer things Dean had donein his life is buy a meal for someone. That's what he did withBrittany's father. He seemed thoroughly surprised that he had wanted to pick up the tab, but did not stop him from doing so. They sat there for two hours at least, talking about the current state of the wrestling business and hardly touched the topic of why they were there. Dean had been nothing but courteous since Mr. Cena's arrival.Although there were some points that he had wanted to start an argument with the man because of the way he spoke or treated him,Dean bitterly put up with it all, only to vent to Brittany about it at the end of the day. The afternoon had proved to be no less different than yesterday. Dean wanted a change of things and he wanted it soon.
