Nala

I take a deep breath as I make my choice. Never in my right mind imagined it would come down to this, but I knew I would have to make the decision before running out of time. The ones I love are at deaths grip and I'm the only one who could fix it. Maybe I should start at the beginning first...

1 year before

"Nala!" my sister screams at the bottom of the stairs before I could even get a step out of my bedroom. I guess you could call me the baby of the family, being there's only me and my sister.
Katie is the responsible one, always making sure I didn't sleep in instead of working. I on the other hand was the typical teenager at nineteen. Yes that meant sleeping at stupid hours, eating and not giving a shit.

As I rush downstairs I stop to look in the mirror to see if I was remotely bearable looking to go to work. At five foot four I was quite petite, along with my long dark brown hair that framed my face. To go with that I have bright purple eyes that shined through the mirror and a small straight nose with full pink lips that made me look unique. Oh yeh, back to the purple eyes. I was born with it; they said I was completely healthy and that they were confused to why my eyes were so bright and violet. As I got older I just expected people to stare at me with wide eyes and gossiping like I was some freak of nature.
Maybe I was.

Katie was in the kitchen making the coffee as I entered, she was only twenty six and yet she acted like a middle aged woman. When she was sixteen we moved out of our parents' house as they wasn't the best parents in the world. My father was abusive towards us all but especially my mum who eventually had enough and turned to drugs and alcohol. We tried to save her from it all but she refused. I was only nine years old and barely understood what was happening. I remember her always saying how she still loved him and made excuses for the way he was , we knew the truth. He would feed her addiction so she would stay. It's been ten years and we haven't seen them once within that time.

"Hey it's about time, coffee?" she asks holding up the coffee pot with a smile. I nod as I take my seat and grabbed the newspaper that was neatly laid out in front of me on the wooden table.

"I had a late night, Valerie wanted to go around town to few parties, she pulled, and I left" Katie hands me a cup of coffee and sits the opposite to me while taking a bite of her toast.

"When doesn't she pull? You sure she doesn't cast a love spell or something" I laugh at Katie and shake my head. Valerie is a witch as are her parents. We live in a world where vampires, werewolves and even witches walk around being known. It first came out ten years ago. Of course some people rebelled and demanded a war but we all knew that if it would happen, then humans would become extinct. So we live beside them as equals.

"I don't think she would do that considering every guy drools at her feet in the first place" I say before finishing my coffee and getting up from the chair while slinging a bag across my shoulder.

"Hmm... anyways girl get off to work, don't want your boss having another bitchy fit when you was late last week" she grins and I couldn't help but laugh back.

"Don't remind me, I'll see you when I get home around six" I say heading for the door.

Work was only half an hour drive in this small town. I work at Holts publishing which is a small company that has become huge in the space of three months. My boss, Janet is a successful woman who only moved here to start her business in publishing. Not to mention strict. Unfortunately I'm the one who makes tea and runs errands around here. It sucked but it paid.

When the clock turned four I couldn't have walked out of there fast enough.
My phone buzzes in my pocket and was happy to see it was Valerie.

"Nala! Last night was once in a life time baby! We should totally go out again tonight" she says ecstatically. I couldn't help but grin before answering her. "It was fun totally; how about you pick me up around nine? Last time this week girl, got work to think about"

"Your nineteen have some fun! I'll see you at nine then. Chow" she says hanging up before I get the chance to reply.

I walk across the road to the tiny shop that I go in every day after work. As I head towards the door I slam straight into hard muscle and was surprised to feel hands grab me before I could fall to the ground.

"Oh god, Sorry!" I blush bright red but carry on staring down so he doesn't see my eyes. He keeps hold of me for a moment and I can't help but notice how masculine he smelled. As if I couldn't get any redder I did. He chuckles and lifts my chin with his finger. When I looked at him my breath caught. He was gorgeous; he must have been around six foot five and strong looking. The man had dark brown hair similar to mine only it was cut in uneven lengths around his ears making him look sexy as hell... his eyes dark blue with a long straight nose and lips that I would do anything to feel them against mine.

"It's nothing to worry about" he says deeply and I just melt by his voice. I looked up in surprise as he doesn't look at me as if my eyes were an unnatural colour.

"Um... ok then..." I smile weakly and he smiles back.

He lets go of me and I almost step closer so I didn't lose contact. He glances behind me as if he heard someone calling him then looked back at me with a slight smile.

"What's your name?" he says and moves so he's leaning against the wall.

"Nala... and yo-"I stop as I hear my phone ringing, I dig into my bag to find it and see who it was but as I glanced up, he was gone.

I take a deep breath to calm my nerves and walk into the shops. A wave of emotions pressed against me, I shoved them aside after a second and tried not to think about him. Yet I knew it wasn't the last I would see off him and that excited me a lot.
