The world’s governments switch to cashless economies, conducting business completely with digital “cash” transfers. All physical money, including bartering, is banned. Unfortunately, just a few years down the line, a computer glitch crashes the system, and ten billion people suddenly find themselves penniless. The resulting panic leads to widespread rioting, looting, arson, murder, and war. The world slowly falls into disrepair, until lights start falling from the sky. When the smoke clears, what emerges are tendrils of light. The government, after finding that they need a host, decide to let them use corpses. Corpses heal and the government, finding how to use the Keepers to their advantage, use them as peacekeepers.
