Once upon a time there was a girl and everything went perfectly. The end, but not really.

I’m totally kidding. Nothing ever went perfectly. Also, she was more of a disaster in her mid-teens than a girl. Oh, and by once upon a time I don’t mean some renaissance decade I mean sometime in the very near past, like last night.

You know that prom is supposed to be like a “magical” and “memorable” event to celebrate the end of the year, magical- no, but memorable-yes. All I can say right now is that I’m sitting in my prom dress on top of the roof. There’s probably four warrants out for my arrest, my best friend hates me (rightfully so), and two guys who love my best friend are not excatly happy with me. Not to mention the entire school saw me mess up my entire life on a stupid megatron, so not only did everyone in my class see it, but its on video some where and is probably gonna end up on the senior video next year.

Boy number one is Nick Vanscarno, is as close to prince-charming as it gets. He has these piercing, sapphire blue eyes and wavy, dark brown hair that falls to just about his eyebrows. He’s got strong muscular arms, flawless skin, and impeccable teeth. All he wears is fitted tees and dark jeans, or polos and khaki shorts. Maybe the team jacket or a baseball hat every now and then. Football quarterback, Debate Team Captain, Baseball all-star and if Student Council was cool he’d be the leader of that too. Parents love him because he’s polite. Nick was destined to be a politician because he could win almost everyone over, except-

Boy number two: Sebastian Anthony Reeves, except everyone calls him Jamaica because of the crab in The Little Mermaid who has a Jamaican accent. He is the opposite of Nick, but he’s just as…what’s the word? Dreamy? Perfect? Wantable.

Jamaica had these chocolate brown, almost coffee black eyes. Straw-like, dirty blonde, hair that stuck up in the way that would make you wanna fix it if it didn’t look so goddamn cute. His complexion was great but it was covered in what seemed like one-day’s worth of stubble everyday. He was strong in an understated way and he would wear dirty band shirts, skinny jeans, random ties, and the same pair of dirty skater shoes. He has a tattoo on his shoulder and he wasn’t involved in any school activities except the talent show that his band won. He smoked. He drank. He was horribly irresistible.

Now, how would these most eligible bachelors be related to me and Ari?

Well, Ari is completely gorgeous. Her parents named her Maria, but she figured it was too plain, and well, Ari just fits her better. Ari had hippie-slash-mermaid hair that did whatever she felt like. She was a blonde for sure, but her dark eyes just made everything seem more, mysterious. She dressed in whatever she liked-we both did. She was just better at it. One day she’d be in a ruffled floral dress with loose curls and dainty flats. The next she was in all black with a pencil skirt, layered lace tank, and shiny stilettos and pin-straight hair or fading, ripped jeans; vintage band shirt; and customized converse with a cute ponytail.  Ari knew how to play piano, she had the voice of an old jazz singer, and she could play the drums like she was in a heavy metal band.

So of course boys liked her. She would never admit it though, because despite her confidence in her style she was the shyest person ever. She could mutter thank you to the compliments she received, but that was it.

I on the other hand had no problem speaking to anyone, no matter the circumstance. I stood up for her when Vanessa and Brooke mocked her fishnets during in 7th grade homeroom and we’ve been friends since.

So let’s get the story, the reason that she probably hates me, and why I’m on my roof while the sun rises over the town that holds my messy life.
