Chapter Four:
In the hours that followed we pick the date, color scheme, flowers, and half the guest list. Ross had to leave a little while in, but he helped with a lot. When he was gone Kaylynn, Rosie, and I ordered dinner and settled down a little. We sat around catching each other up and picking linens. When we finally decided to go to bed it was probably two in the morning.
The next morning I woke up to rain lightly hitting the windows. I rolled over and groaned; it was early and I was tired from all the work we did last night. I buried my face in my pillow and tried to go back to sleep. I was half way there when I heard voices.
"Should we wake her up?" Rosie whispered.
"Of course we should... but she did have kind of a long night." Kaylynn whispered back.
"I'm hungry, and she knows the best breakfast places!" Rosie replied.
"Just give her a few minutes!"
At that I rolled over and looked at them standing in the doorway.
"Hi," I started, "You know I can hear you right?"
"Oh, did we wake you?" Kaylynn asked sheepishly.
"No, I've been awake for a few minute." I rubbed my face.
"Do you want to get breakfast?" Rosie asked, skipping into the room and plopping on to the bed.
"Rosie!" Kay laughed, still leaning against the door jam.
"What; I'm hungry!" She shrugged.
"Yeah, I could eat," I sighed.
I sat up and went to my closet to pick out a sweatshirt, leggings, Nike running shoes, and my coat. I threw them on and tossed my hair into a messy ponytail. I thought about all the stuff I'd done for the wedding, and silently wished that Ross was here with me to do more. They weren't the most important things but I would have liked to have him by my side. As I wrapped a scarf around my neck, and looked in the mirror, I thought about my mom. She should have been here. She should have helped me pick the flowers, the color scheme, the dress. Oh, how I was dreading going dress shopping.
I shook my head and rubbed my temples while I walked out to my living room. Rosie and Kaylynn were sitting on the bar stools waiting on me. I dropped my phone in my purse and plopped my sunglasses atop my head.
"Alright, so I know this great donut shop in the village, but they also sell other food too." I said.
"Ok, hey, I'm going to bring along your wedding binder and we can work on the other half of that guest list." Rosie said, grabbing the book off the table.
I just nodded. We'd already laid out that we wanted family and friends there. Personally, I didn't really want anymore than family and close friends, but Ross wanted everyone we knew there, or at least that's how it seemed.
The chill seemed to whip around us, making our lips chapped and cheeks rosy. I stepped close to edge of the sidewalk and stuck my hand up in the air.
"What is she doing?" Rosie asked.
"Haling a cab," Kaylynn responded.
"Oh," Rosie nodded.
The cab pulled close to the curb and I opened the door and slid in, the girls following me.
I gave the cabbie the address. The city seemed to fly by as we drove, but the mismatch of color and sound was incredible.
