I stared at the stars from my bedroom window. The night time eyes flooded the sky and the moon stood proudly in the center of everything. I wondered why the sky wasn't orange, and the moon a giant sunflower. Why doesn't the ground bleed when we fall on it? Why isn't Wonderland our land? I placed my hand on my cold, muggy window and I drew a heart on the glass.
"What are you, Wonderland?"
I wished for answers, but I knew no one could tell me.What is Wonderland? What happened to you? Are you truly Wonderland, or are you Underland? When I visited you, all that time ago, why did you show me kindness? Why was I the girl you waited for? And then, when I visited you again, this past August, why did you change so drastically? You were of nothing I could've imagined. You were dark, and you were gory. Everything about you changed. What was once a whimsical fantasy, because a schizophrenic night mare. The gears in your clock did not chime the same. The tea at your party did not taste the same. The air in your world, I could not breathe the same. I closed my eyes and let the tears fall into my mouth. I went to sleep and dreamt of Underland.
The Next Morning.....
The sun showed itself and shined onto my face. "Another day," I said. I got out of bed and went down stairs to the kitchen. I swept the floors, washed the dishes, and wiped the windows. Ever since I had conquered my visit to Underland, my image from the people changed drastically. I was adopted into a new family. My foster mother is Annabeth Heckler and my foster father was Johnathan Heckler. We lived in a 3 story home. It was a big house with a nice garden. I had stayed with them for a couple months. You'd think life would've been sweet, but this life was a little more sour. Imagination was banned. I couldn't draw, I was only allowed to read non fiction novels, depending on what the topic was, I couldn't listen to any music, I was rarely allowed in town. My family wanted to hide me from the world. "We did you the favor of taking you under our care," my mother would say. "So you mustn't fill our house with your satanic ways, or we will throw you onto the streets once again." I would've rather stayed in the orphanage than live in this prison. I had planning my escape for a short while. I would keep a trunk under my bed full of clothes and things I thought I needed to leave. That day was the day I was going to leave. I didn't want to announce my departure in fear of word spreading that "Angry Alice" was back on the streets. I left through the attic door. There was a hole in the floor, and it lead to a huge a huge empty pipe in the wall that went into the ground I could crawl through which lead me to the abandoned house a street away. I walked to the forest at the edge of town and laid my trunk down to rest. I didn't know where I was going at all, I didn't know who I was going to be, what I wanted to do. I had no idea if I even wanted to be anything. Life on earth was just too exhausting. Outside of wonderland, I wasn't anyone in the real world. While I was deep in thought, the strangest bunny I had ever seen had crossed my feet. "What is this.....wait. You look awfully familiar. C-could it be...? I said. I reached my hand out to pet it, but as I did it hissed at me. Startled, I threw my arms back and pushed up against the tree. The creature snatched my diamond embroidered necklace hanging from my neck and scurried off. "Hey!" I screamed. "Get back here." I ran after it, leaving my trunk behind. "Stop!!" I needed that necklace back. I followed the animal through bushes and trees and thorny plants that scratched my legs. I started to feel out of breathe, I couldn't see the rabbit anymore. I stopped and rested near a large oak
tree. As I looked around there were stop watches hanging from the branches of the trees. "What is this?" I thought. I picked myself up and examined the watches. Old bronze, silver, gold. "W-what is all this?". As I looked closer, I could make out the embroidery on one of the stopwatches. "Spades....Is this.....", I quickly searched the gadget to find anything that could recover my memory. Something about those spades embroidered on the watch made my mind tick. Just as I flipped the watch over, I revealed a crowned heart with a dagger going through it encrusted into the watch. My eyes widened as my brain started to remember. "Is this-"
Rustling in the bushes awoke me from my realization. As soon as I flipped my head to uncover what was making the sound, a creature revealed itself from the bush. A mangled, disfigured, extremely large white rabbit was just before me. I couldn't get anther sound in, as something, some force took me from the ground I was once on. I was pushed into a never ending hole, falling into nothing. The creature screamed down at me, and then I soon realized exactly what was going on.
