The sound of an owl close by reverberated off  the old, nightmarish house. The light seemed to highlight all the worst things; gargoyles, weathered headstones, blood splatters and cobwebs. The swirling darkness seemed to have chosen this mansion to ruin and decay. Just as the whipping wind and shooting rain tried to pull all the veering vines down.

This house, you could tell, had not had a happy life. Clearly, its owners had not bothered to give it the care it needed and deserved.

The inside was no better; with its stained red floors, the sides of the carpets pulled up, as though a carpeting job had gone wrong. Plus, the fact that there was no electricity, so all that lit the rustic building were candles, which had been placed all over the house, being left to burn to the hilt, the wax dripping down the stained candle holders and then swirling toward the ground. Some may have said it looked pretty, the way the wax had made patterns as it hardened, but even though it had beauty, it was still obvious to all that looked at it, that it had been left to burn.

Wine stains flowed freely along the walls and flooring. Wine, that is what she’ll call it, although to her what was along the floor and walls was most definitely not wine. Blood, that was her best guess, the sticky stuff had completely dried and had turned an awful rusty brown. She can honestly say, she’s not sure where this blood had come from, whether someone had died in this house or if it was an accident. But, surely this much blood had come from something a lot worse than an accident…

This was the place, that children feared, that children went to on Halloween night, dares and tricks had them all running there. Most never went in, but some got there. Their observations the same as hers; ruined, bloodied and decayed, the house had been left to rot.

The worrying thing was, they never learned. They should at least have learned from her death not to go in there. You never knew what could happen, supernatural or otherwise.

*20 years earlier*

Amy was 17, care-free and young, all she did was hang around with friends and have a good time. It was October, close to winter and it wasn’t as hot as it used to be, but they still tried to make it seem like they were still in summer, although shorts in this weather never worked. Playing around with her friends seemed like the best thing ever invented, although school wasn’t very fun, but they put up with it. Besides, they  only had one more year left before they were free to do as they pleased. Unless you were going to college then you had more schooling, and then there was university… But all that worrying wasn’t ever thought of whilst their group were out and about gossiping and what not, with close friends. Boys were usually involved too, and we all know boys are more competitive and enjoy bets way more than girls. In fact, a simple game of dares is how she ended up in the ground… in a cemetery.

October 31st one of those nights that all kids stay out on, all kids get scared on. It’s the night of Amy's death too, something that is jolted into her memory forever, something she’ll never loose and never forget. You ever believed in ghosts? Ever believed of the supernatural? Amy's death was something of the supernatural, maybe that’s what only she believe because, she was there, she saw it. And she lives through death with it every day.

Amy, Jenny, Matt, David, Shona and Rob were all out that night. You see, in their town there is a haunted house. The one Amy described sounds like one out of a haunted fairy tale right? Well, wrong, the house she described was the one only roads away from her house.

They had all dressed up for Halloween, although they were too old to go trick-or-treating they still liked to feel a part of the spirit of the dark night.
