Chapter 20 - Slugslinging

Jellal's POV

"Let's see... If I remember correctly, your parents are gun specialist?"

After the day that Asuka voiced out her wish of learning magic, she seems to open up to us better.

Well, she and Meredy can be said as best friend now.

"Yeah. They uses guns magic."

Rye turned to me and suggested. "Shall we start on the handling basics, master?"

"Good idea. We'll start on firearm handling basics, since that's your family's bloodline."

Though we're not using normal guns -- It's blasters from now.

For a gun user, a stable stance and the grip is important. The basics mustn't be ignore.

If not, you'll accidentally hurt yourself. Especially for a kid.

But Asuka do have great potential at this.

With a little help from April, she manage to master all the basics in an hour.

The blaster have more impact compared to a normal gun, thus make it difficult to maintain your stability without falling backwards.

But Asuka managed to do it.

Though she did failed a number of times but she kept on trying.

That reminds me of April when she first learn slugslinging.

"You did well. Now, you've master the basics of being a gun user and how blasters works, we should try out something more practical."

I smiled as the kids look at me with excitement.

"Though... what we are about to teach you is not exactly the same as what your parents practices. It's not magic... more like, a skill."

Rye's POV

"You'll be learning... Slugslinging."

Just as I though, master will be teaching Asuka slugslinging.

Bet you haven't heard of it before eh?

Slugslinging skill is extremely rare in Earthland. It came from April's homeland – Slugterra. It's a mysterious place though. I don't know much about it other than what master told me.

Only a few people in Earthland know it exists.

Despite slugs often be used for battling, some can be used for household chores, and even as pets.

When these magical creature-- slugs are fired with the help of blasters, they reach a speed of one hundred miles per hour and transform into a stronger form called Battle Form which can be highly destructive. 

I've seen a demonstration by master and I must say slugslinging is a powerful skill.

The slugs can bring powerful destruction despite their small and adorable look.

"Let's make it simple. Slugslinging is about making friends with the slugs and fight your opponent by using blaster and slugs." Master concluded.

"There are currently 48 known breeds of Slugs that fall into 14 different elements. Each breed of Slug has its own unique powers" April added.

She may be a bit playful but she knows when to be serious.

Master Jellal picked up Firen to his palm. "Like Firen here, he is the Infurnus species. These slugs are empowered with the element of fire."

Although April is the only one that practices slugslinging, we -- Theodore and the rest of the team-- still learn it to increase our knowledge.

The same goes as when we learn about our respective skills.

Other than slugslinging, we've been learning Earthbending, Airbending and combat skills of martial arts.

"It's okay if you don't understand. April will be your guidance tutor from now onward. You can ask her if you have any doubts. You okay with that, April?" 

"No problem, master!"

Because of April's joyous personality, she can get along with other people easily. So it's not a problem at all.

"If there's no other problem, today's training ends now. Be sure to get some rest. If you have any problems feel free to ask me or anyone else here."

"Yes master/Uncle Jellal !"
