Third Person POV
The five drenched students stood in the vice principal's office with their head bowed as Mrs. Smith paced up and down the length of her room talking on the phone.
"I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to the police" Mrs Smith said in bone chilling sweet voice. "Yes, I caught five students in the act." A moment of silence passed.
"No, I don't think it's worth getting the police involved. The school will deal with the children the old-fashioned way." Another period of silence.
"Thank you very much for your services and sorry for the inconveniences caused."
The sound of the phone clicking seemed to echo in the silent room as the nervous students stole glances at Mrs. Smith through their lashes.
"So, I expect that there is some logical explanation as to why the five of you were on the school grounds after school hours. Not only have you students trespassed the grounds but also destroyed school property. I will give one of you students a chance to speak on the behalf of others and explain yourselves."
"So who would like to speak in defence?" Mrs. Smith asked eyeing everyone carefully.
The five students exchanged glances trying to figure out who would be brave enough to stand up to Mrs. Smith aka 'The she-devil' as the students called her.
While others stood uncomfortably under the challenging gaze of Mrs. Smith, Charlie gave a small nod indicating that he would talk for the group. A wave of relief crossed over everyone's face while the she-devil gave a look of amusement as she had thought no one would have had the courage to stand up to her.
"I would like to speak on the behalf of everyone." Charlie said clearing his throat.
"Very well then, you may start." Mrs. Smith said in a calm voice.
With one last exchange of glances between the students, Charlie began, "Well Mrs. Smith, you see we all had cross country practice that had been rescheduled for today at 5.00pm in the old gym."
Charlie stopped his talk short in order to get any reaction out of Mrs. Smith but her face remained straight and expressionless so he continued.
"We all were waiting for the coach to arrive but he was running late."
Suddenly Charlie's talk was interrupted by Feromichelle.
"Yeah! He was really late. Like almost an hour!" Feromichelle chirped in but instantly shut his mouth when she-devil glared at him.
She then nodded at Charlie, signalling him to resume his story.
"Yes, the coach was almost an hour late and then suddenly Rem and Tanshui Do brought to our attention that there was fire in the gym. Although we have no idea how the fire started in the first place as it wasn't any one of us. And I can say this because we all were discussing about the senior camp. The water sprinklers put the fire out and then we went outside, following as taught in the fire drill. We were thinking of finding a teacher to report this matter but before we could go, you found us." Charlie quickly finished in one breath manipulating the story a little..
Mrs. Smith remained quiet for a few seconds before replying to Charlie.
"Well, for all I know you could have made up this story. Do you have any sort of evidence to support your story about this practice in the old gym?"
For a moment all the students stood there dumb folded but then suddenly Feromichelle gasped and started fumbling with his pocket.
"Ah ha! I knew I had put it somewhere in here." he exclaimed pulling out a crumpled letter from his pocket and handed it to Mrs. Smith wearing a proud smirk on his face. "There you go Mrs. Smith. This is the letter we got from the coach telling us about the practice in the old gym."
Mrs. Smith snatched the letter from his hand, straightened it out and began reading with a frown plastered on her face. Her eyes moved in robotic style from left to the right of the page as the students waited for a reaction from her.
Slowly as her eyes got to the bottom of the letter and the frown has turned into an evil smile, or at least that's what the students thought.
"Well, thank you for this evidence but this does not prove your innocence." she said putting the letter down on the table gently.
"What! But why? You just said that if we had some sort of evidence, it would be cool!" Feromichelle suddenly blurted out the tension.
Mrs. Smith glared at him for a moment continuing. "Yes Mr. Day but the letter you have given me does not have a letter head of this school and also there is no signature at the bottom. Thus this letter could have been easily forged as there is no mark of authority."
Richard opened his mouth to argue but Mrs. Smith quickly cut his off.
"No need to argue with me Mr. Odinson. I am simply following the school guidelines."
"You all were caught in the act of trespassing school after hours, destroyed school property and also have false evidence to prove your innocence. The five of you are suspended from school for 1 weeks. None of you are to attend any school events such as the senior camp next week. However, if you are seen on the school property in these two weeks, further action will be taken. The letter of suspension will be posted tomorrow and you are dismissed."
Mrs. Smith's assertive voice and her firm decision resembled a judge's sentencing an offender from committing a serious crime. The students seemed lost when Mrs. Smith banged a book on the table to break them out of their trance. Again, the book was very much like the hamlet that is sounded at the end of hearing from the judge.
Rem was the first one to exit the room in huff with the other four following hot on her trail.
"Hey! Where do you think you are going Rebel with that speed of yours? " Feromichelle mockingly asked her lightly jogging after her.
"Well. If you didn't hear what the she-devil just said then I will repeat it for you. We are SUSPENDED for TWO GODDAMN WEEKS!! And you want to know why? Because the coach could not be bothered showing up!" she suddenly whipped around and replied in a harsh tone.
Then within a second, her tone changed to sickly sweet one, "So I am going to pay him a nice visit right now and offer him some cookie! Wanna come jock?" She asked mockingly this time.
Her attitude seemed to scare everyone a little but then Charlie stepped up. "Do you know where he lives?"
"How hard can it be? It's a small town with a population of approximately 2,000 people." She smirked and replied to him.
"The address is 13 Crawford Street." All of a sudden Richard said. "And yeah, I think we should pay him a visit. Right now!"
They all nodded at each other signifying unity in their decision to go and a hidden glint of mischief spread among the five students as they headed for the coach's house in the dusking day.
