Midori's P.O.V.
"Welcome to Veena-sama's home."
I hid behind Kazuma when I saw several other people. Veena-sama and her other Shinki continued walking when I made him stop.
"Kazuma-san, I'm scared." I said.
"There's nothing to be afraid of. All of these Shinki are on our side." He smiled.
"But I've never had to interact with others."
"It's easy. All you have to do is be nice. I'm sure you'll make friends here."
I lowered my head and fiddled with the clothes Veena-sama had given me to change into.
"Hey." He whispered, making me look up at him. "If you ever need me, I'll be here. You don't have to be afraid."
I blushed and looked away.
"Midori! Come and meet some of the others!" Veena-sama smiled.
~~~
"Mido-chan! Come back! We just want to play~" The Ayakashi sang.
I ran for what seemed to be an eternity. I finally stopped when my legs gave out, and the Ayakashi started munching on my ankles. I cried out in pain and reached out for whoever it was that appeared in front of me.
"Mido-chan!"
I screamed and sat up. The room was pitch black, and the three children I was rooming with were all crowding my bed.
"Did you have a bad dream?" Karuha asked.
"Yes. I'm fine now. I'm just going to go for a walk. Go back to bed." I answered, getting to my feet.
I pulled on a robe and left the room, closing the door behind myself as I went. I walked around for a good hour, trying to memorize where everything was. I stopped when I found a room with a piano. I hesitated before I walked up to it, the soft thud of my bare feet hitting the floor echoing in the room.
I looked around to see multiple of instruments. I grabbed one of the guitars and plucked one of the strings.
"Midori-chan? What are you doing up so late?" A voice asked.
I turned to face the door to see a shirtless Kazuma. He was rubbing his eyes, his glasses in his hand.
"I had a bad dream." I answered.
"So that's why Karuha woke me up."
I set the guitar down and walked up to him. He frowned when I took his glasses. I put them on and smiled at him before I ran away from him.
"Tch! Come back here!" He growled.
I laughed as he chased me. We somehow ended up on the roof, and almost every Shinki that lived with Veena-sama was watching us. Veena-sama herself soon appeared when I got to the edge of the roof.
"Return my glasses now, Midori!" Kazuma ordered.
"Make me, Kazuma-san!" I retorted.
He let out a frustrated noise and launched himself at me. He yanked me off my feet, and we fell to the ground. I screamed once I noticed how high up we were, and he scrambled to get under me. He smashed into the ground, and I landed on top of him. He groaned and squinted at me.
"Are you hurt?" He asked.
"No, Kazuma-kun. I'm fine." I said. "Your glasses broke, though."
I sat up and helped him move. He moved his arm around and flinched.
"My shoulder popped out of place." He muttered.
Tears came to my eyes. I looked down at the crushed glass I held in my hands and let the tears flow.
"Midori-chan!" Veena-sama called.
I wiped away my tears and looked up at her when she stood beside us. She smiled slightly and crouched down to get a better look at me.
"What do you say to Kazuma for keeping you from getting harmed?" She asked.
I looked at Kazuma, who was still squinting at me. I continued to wipe away my tears.
"T-Thank you, K-Kazuma." I hiccuped.
~~~
"He'll be fine, Midori. He just needs some rest."
"Mm."
Veena-sama led me to Kazuma's infirmary bed. The green-eyed boy was looking at me. I lowered my head when I stood next to him.
"Hello, Midori-chan." He smiled.
"K-Kazamu-kun." I greeted.
I held out my hand, a light green glasses case resting on my palm. He hesitated before he took it and opened it.
"I'm sorry I broke your glasses, Kazuma-kun." I whispered.
He smiled as he put the new pair on. "Thank you, Midori-chan."
