My name is Anaya Miller, I'm 20 years old and I'm a nurse at Clear Mounts Nursing home. I live in a one-bedroom apartment with my pearl-white Shiba Inu, Bear and on certain occassions my boyfriend Jordan stays with us. I've been in a reltionship with Jordan for 5 years; I met him when I was a freshman at Blackmore High School and he was a junior. I was 15 years old when we first started dating, I thought he wouldn't even pay attention to me because I was younger than him. Jordan played football for the Blackmore Leopards, I attended every game with my cousin Krystal and my bestfriend Cat. Eventually, we talked and from then on been together. Cat and Krystal don't care for him; They feel he's using me since his football career didn't go the way he expected. I really honor their opinions, I grew up with Krystal as my sister and Cat always for as long as I can remember lived next door to us. Krystal is my older cousin, she use to live with my Aunt Dorian but moved with my Dad and I when I was 7 years old. Ever since then we instantly got close around the time that Krystal moved in Cat moved in next door; Her and Krystal were actually friends first due to me being so shy. Cat's Dad and my Dad were buddies from work so she came over a lot to play with Krystal; I would just see her come over, never saying anything but smiling shyly. I honestly didn't start to hang with Cat until I was 9 years old, we ended up being in the same class at Riverside Elementary School and always seemed to be in the same group. After that all three of us were pretty inseparable then Middle school came around, Cat moved across town and started going to a different school. My 7th grade year was when Cat moved across the street from us, it was the best year of my life besides whe we first became friends in Elementary; I got my bestfriend back. At high school there were a few rumors that Cat and I were a couple; we never denied it honestly. I guess in a way there was always something more between us, never spoken but both had a mutual understanding that it was there. After Jordan and I started dating he didn't like me being around Cat as much so in a way my relationship has put a damper on my friendship. We found a way to make it work, regardless Cat was a part of my life and I couldn't imagine it being any different.
It was just another Saturday evening, I had gotten off of work that morning and had the rest of my weekend off until I had to go back to work Tuesday. I had just gotten out of the shower wearing my favorite Pink Panther pajamas and sat on the couch watching, ' Z nation'. Bear ran from my bedroom to jump on the couch and cuddle in my lap. I rubbed the top of his head, playing with his full puffy white fur and cooed at the way he squinched his eyes. I smiled at the small puppy cuddling in my lap reminiscing the first time Cat brought Bear to me in an old wicker basket. It was my 19th birthday in my first apartment, Jordan had forgotten or just didn't care enough because he went out with his friends that night and Krystal sent me an eatable arrangement. I was home alone eating the fruit from the eatable arrangement and watching a movie when I heard a knock on my front door. I answered the door letting Cat in carrying a wicker basket with a white small blanket drapped over it and I could hear the small whimpers of the puppy. "Happy birthday, babygirl" said Cat, sitting the basket on my coffee table and taking the blanket off. I gasped seeing the tiny, precious fluffy white puppy laying in the basket with his small eyes closed and he whimpered. "Oh my god, Cat! You got me a puppy, he is perfect!" I squealed, excited and touched. "Yep, I remember how you use to always say you wanted a Shib Inu. My bro Nova knew a guy who just so happens to breed and sell Shiba Inu puppies" she laughed, handing me the small white blanket, "Go ahead and pick him up". I gently wrapped the small blanket around the fragile little puppy and cradled him in my arms. "Aww, he's so precious. Cat, he's perfect. Thank you" I beamed, holding him close to me. "No problem, I just wanted your birthday to be special" avowed Cat, sitting on the couch smiling. "Bear...That's gonna be his name" I announced, cuddling the precious puppy. I sat on the couch placing Bear gently in my lap, leaning on Cat's shoulder and sighed. "This has been the best birthday party, Cat" I muttered. "You deserve the best, babes" she replied, shrugging. I sat up careful enough not to disturb Bear whom had fallen asleep already so I could scoot closer to Cat and she put her arm around me. I looked her the profile of her face as she watched the TV, she must've felt me staring at her because she started to smile and turned to look at me. I leaned forward to kiss her cheek but she leaned towards me at the same time and our lips locked; I was shocked but didn't break the kiss. The kiss was gentle but felt urgent, I could feel the warmth of her hand caressing my jawline as I nestled my face into her hand without breaking the kiss and I took a free hand from my lap to lace at the back of her head deepening the kiss. I had goosebumps all over and a chill run down my spine as our lips moved in unison; w broke the kiss in an attempt to catch out breath. "I-I...I gotta go. Happy birthday, Ana...See you tomorrow" stammered Cat, getting up from the couch in a rush. "Cat?" I said, watching her move to the door, "Cat, wait". She quickly opened the door and closed it behind her leaving me in shock. "Oh Bear...What am I gonna do?" I asked, whispering gently to the puppy. I knew I felt something more for her and I knew that these feelings could cause problems not only with my relationship but my friendship as well.
