As Dante hoisted Sofia higher on his back he jumped over another gap in the stairs, grunting as he did so. The jump was longer than he expected and he dropped rebellion, releasing Sofia at the same time as he grabbed the edge of the crumbling ledge.
He glanced back down and let go as he fell, grabbing the air as he nearer Sofia. He removed his jacket, which was slowing him down and let it fall behind him. A shrill feminine scream ripped through his body slashing into his soul and he glanced back at Sofia who was now transfixed, frozen in the air, her body stretched as if it was being pulled by many hands that were tearing her apart.
As he fell past her he grabbed her hand but found she was searing him to touch, she was like a poison, and so, he had to let go and continue his fall to the floor. As he landed with a heavy thump he looked back up at Sofia who was still floating. Her scream echoing around the tall chamber, reverberating off every surface.
He shuddered and lifted his hands to his ears as her scream became higher in pitch and louder in volume. Then, nothing. A haunting stillness washed over everything as time slowed to an almost standstill. Dante removed his hand from his ears to cover his eyes as a burning white light engulfed him. He bent down close to the ground, keeping his position.
When he found he could see, he blinked a few times, removing the dots from his vision. When he was seeing clearly again he looked up, desperately searching for Sofia. When he saw she was no longer there he began to panic, was she okay? What had just happened to her? Where was she?
"SOFIA!"
"Ouch, no need to shout."
Dante spun around rapidly, his hair getting in his eyes. Yet, he could still see her. Hovering a few feet from the ground, was his angel, amazing white-feathered wings protruded from her back. She glowed with a heavenly light and Dante felt his jaw slack and fall open.
Her leather pants were gone and replace by white shorts with loose material over the top, masquerading as a skirt. Her tightly fitted black top was also changed to a white one, cut short so it showed her mid-rift. White sandals laced and crossed up her legs as she touched the ground and closed Dante's mouth with her hand.
His eyes scanned her body hungrily and he kissed her without a second thought. His tongue searched her mouth eagerly and he sampled that pure angelic taste that she had. Sofia pulled her dark knight closer, enveloping him in her arms and letting her tongue fight his.
Dante rested her head against Sofia's looking deeply into her eyes. She smiled up at him and let her palms lay flat against his stomach. Dante tried many different methods of putting his arms around Sofia, but with her wings, he could do nothing, and so, he cupped her face in his hands and pecked her lips softly.
"Don't ever do that to me again Sofia."
"Hey, you dropped me."
"And you have no idea how much I regretted that."
"So, are you going to carry me again?"
"Err no, you can carry me babe."
Dante smirked at his angel in return to her glare. He left her body and suddenly felt cold without her warm touch. He grabbed his jacket and rebellion and stole his guns back from Sofia, who was still glowering at him. Dante took Sofia's hand in his and kissed her again, quickly, just so he could feel her against him.
She pushed him away and jumped up, jerking Dante with her. She smirked at him and resumed their way up, reaching the desired door, at the top of the stairs. She dropped Dante down by the door and then went back into the centre of the room, getting used to flying around.
"Sofia, back up here, now before you hurt yourself."
Sofia chuckled and continued in her dive, pulling out a little too late and rolling over on the ground. With a couple of soft bumps she finally ended up in a sitting position, her legs spread and her hands on the floor in between them. Dante had been tempted to jump down and check if she was okay, but he didn't fancy coming back up the stairs for the third time.
He watched her as she stood, rubbing the lower part of her back and shaking off her wings. Dust rained onto the floor from under her as she cleaned her white outfit off, complaining how impractical it was, and how little there was for her to wear. Dante, hearing this, smirked, and sat down on the edge of the steps, his legs dangling over.
"Don't you dare say it Dante."
"Well come up here and stop trying to show off."
"Fine."
"Oh and I told you so babe."
Sofia growled at Dante and jumped, taking into the air and charging up to where Dante was. A gust of wind, caused by Sofia, blew his hair from his face as she rounded on him, punching him in the jaw. He fell back on to the hard concrete and looked up to see Sofia standing over him, back in her black clothing.
"I told you not to say it."
Dante pushed himself off the floor and glared at his partner who was smiling innocently at him. She pushed through the heavy doors they had been aiming for when they entered this room and groaned as she saw the expansive walkway in front of her.
A ball of white light emitted around her and, soon, she was back in her angel state, and lightly glided along, putting very little effort into moving. Her demonic companion walked slowly behind, complaining and moaning about how he had to walk.
When he eventually reached the other side he was less than pleased to find a gloating Sofia waiting for him. The two of them continued, both with contrary moods. As they climbed the stairs, now outside the tower, Sofia stopped, raising her head up to look at the rain. Dante walked in to her, accidentally, and mumbled an apology.
"Drake loves the rain."
"Sofia, I promise, we'll get him back."
"I know, but I want him with me now Dante."
"Soon Sofia, soon."
Sofia's gaze dropped and she returned to her normal, human form. Dante loosely got her hand and pulled her along behind him as they went up the final set of steps. Dante's body tensed and he pulled Sofia behind him as he saw Vergil standing in the centre of the area, waiting for the two of them.
"It seems it is your time Dante."
"Where is he Vergil?"
"It doesn't matter. He is alive."
"Where is my son you bastard?"
"It doesn't matter."
The only full human out of the four, Arkham, came up behind Sofia, pulling her away from Dante. She didn't fight, secretly, she was hoping that he would take her to her son. Dante unwillingly allowed Sofia to be taken away from him as he took out rebellion. The human was easily manipulated, with Vergil gone they could use him to find her son.
This fight would test both the brothers and they both knew this, excited by the challenge their rivalry produced. Dante glanced at Sofia again. He would win this fight so he could get her son back for her. He would win this fight or he would die trying, that was his silent vow he made to her.
