"Foolishness . . . Dante . . . Foolishness."

Dante flew back and dropped rebellion to the floor next to him, pulling out ivory and firing at his brother who was winning the fight. Vergil easily blocked the bullets and sent them back in Dante's direction. Dante heaved his sword up from the floor and blocked the bullets from attacking him.

Leaning on his sword, Dante lifted his body from the ground and swayed before standing up straight, looking Vergil defiantly in the eye. Vergil smirked glancing over at Sofia as he sheathed his sword.

"Why do you refuse to gain power Dante? Without power you cannot protect anything, not yourself, not her son . . . and not . . . her."

Vergil began walking towards Sofia, Dante charging at him as he did so. Vergil didn't even glimpse at his twin as he struck him, pulling his katana through his body and quickly removing it.

Dante stopped for a moment, his mind uncomprehending of the recent events. He glanced down; at the spot Vergil's sword had slashed and then fell to his knees. Sofia was immediately by his side, Arkham, who had been holding her, was now holding his stomach as he leaned against the nearest pillar, blood trickling down his arm.

"Dante, baby it's okay."

"I know. It's cool."

She brushed his hair away from his face and cupped it her hands. She kissed his lips gently and rested her forehead against his. His hands rested on her hips trembling as they moved. His grip tightened painfully and his teeth clenched as he fought the pain that was ripping his body apart.

"Stay with me Dante, stay with me."

Vergil was beginning to feel sickened by the scene in front of him. He grabbed Sofia's arm and pulled her to her feet, dragging her away from Dante who was too weak to stop his brother. Sofia tried pulling away, getting back to the struggling Dante on the floor but Vergil's grip was too strong for her.

He pulled her closer to him, stopping and facing her. She looked up into those cold yet familiar eyes and then back at Dante who was forcing himself to stand. Slowly she looked up at Vergil, hatred filling her deep blue eyes. Vergil leaned in close to her ear, his frozen lips brushing against it.

"Save your hate if you want to see your son alive."

"You bastard."

"Well?"

"I want to see my son."

"Good."

His arm dropped hers and rested around her waist. They faced Dante together, Sofia's gaze not meeting his as her face was directed towards the floor. Vergil smirked at his brother as he looked down upon him, both literally and figuratively.

"It seems your use has come to an end Dante."

Forcing Sofia to move with him, Vergil turned and began walking away. He heard Dante stand and almost instantly turned, slicing his sword through his brother again. Sofia pulled Vergil back, causing his attack to be cut short.

"No, just leave it."

Vergil pulled his sword from Dante's fist and smirked again, not showing his disappointment at Sofia's interruption.

"You may have some demon blood in you yet Dante, but not enough to save you or your angel."

Before Sofia could object again Vergil quickly pulled her off the roof, jumping down to the floor. Sofia had to fight her body's desire to open her wings and float down to the floor. If Vergil found out she had activated her mothers power he probably wouldn't hesitate to take it from her somehow.

As the hit the floor Vergil didn't give her time to recover, pulling her straight inside, throwing her into a room a locking it shut behind her. He had seen that look when he had attacked his brother, she was furious, there was something in her eyes that he couldn't quite place, but it was obvious it didn't belong in her innocent body.

She pounded on the door, swearing and cursing Vergil a few times before sinking to the floor, leaning up against the door. She glanced around the room she was in and her eyes settled upon the huddled form of a little boy in the corner, hiding from view. She crawled over to him and rolled him over to face her.

Drake clenched his eyes closed as he felt someone touch his shoulder and pull him over. A gentle hand on his face, although reassured him, didn't cool the panic in him. He tried rolling over, back into the wall when he heard a gentle singing. His eyes shot open and he cried, crawling onto his mothers lap and clinging to her.

"It's okay Drakie, it's okay, I'm here."

He didn't respond verbally, he only pulled on her, helping himself stand so he could cuddle her, snuggling into her shoulder, nuzzling her. Her arms held him tightly as he still cried into her.

"I'm sorry Drakie, I'm so sorry. I'll make it better."

He tried to speak but failed as sobs escaped his lips. He pulled her tighter as she moved herself, so she was leaning against the wall. She bent her legs up and rested Drake back against them. He clawed at the air, trying to get back to the position he was in.

"Drake, sweetheart, are you okay?"

He nodded and mumbled something incoherent as he managed to get his arms around her neck so he could pull himself closer.

"Drake, will you talk to me?"

"I-I."

His voice broke as he started crying again. He had only cried in here, he hadn't spoken at all, not even to ask to leave. He had been to scared to talk, and so, now, he was struggling to form words. As he began to feel tired, and safe, he finally allowed himself to sleep. As he drifted off he managed a few words, to assure his mother he was okay and he wanted her with him.

"I-I love you mommy."
