It was a normal day for me.
I was sitting in the living room, gazing absentmindedly at the TV set, and trying to cool off the sweltering heat. It was simply too warm.
It was August 3rd, and I had just turned 11 on August 2nd, so I was pretty happy. I had gotten a ton of candy from my few friends, and I was generally in a good mood.
"Nielsen?" A voice came from the kitchen. "Are you in there?"
Tilting my head towards the door, I saw my mom smile down at me.
"Lunch!" She said, and I nodded sluggishly, the heat successfully slowing my mind down a lot. Standing up, I walked into the kitchen and took the piece of toast that was on the plate, eating it quickly.
"Thanks mom!" I said before walking back into our living room, sitting back down in my position on the couch.
"What a great summer." I mumbled to myself, and I looked out the window.
What?
A woman in deep green robes was walking to our front door, and she had a pointy hat on her head - much like those witch stories I had read when I was little.
Frowning, I didn't pay it much attention. My mom would probably handle it.
Ding-dong.
I looked up again from the TV, and I saw my mom walk over to the door, swinging it open.
"Hello?" My mom said confusedly, and I snorted at her reaction. Most people these days didn't wear robes or cloaks.
"Hello. Please give this letter to your son. It has everything you need to know. Good day." A woman said from the front door, and when I looked out the window, the woman was walking briskly away. Then...
She was gone.
Wait what?
Blinking, I stared out the window more intently.
"Nielsen, you have a delivery." My mom said to me, and I turned around. She was holding a small letter in her hand, and from what I could make out, it read.
