A/N: This is set three and a half years after the events of Jurassic World. In an attempt to engineer gentler dinosaurs, they are designed to be male. (Generally male lizards tend to make better pets.) Also, I believe Archaeopteryx is pronounced "Ark-ee-op-ter-icks".
Disclaimer: I dont own Jurassic World/Park, the images I use or any of the characters used. I'm poor, I own nothing.
Archaeopteryx Training
Being a dinosaur trainer was something you hadn't really foreseen when you were younger, although considering your father was Dr Alan Grant, you figured some form of work with the ancient lizards was inevitable. You'd intended to just do general paleontology, studying the rare Archaeopteryx fossils, however, you had become a renowned expert and that caught the attention of Jurassic World. While Archaeopteryx was technically a bird, it was still very dinosaur as well, and would make a wonderful addition to their new park. They were planning an exhibit with the bird and wished for you to train them, maybe even get them to do some tricks. Your father had tried to persuade you otherwise considering his bad experiences with the parks but you accepted the job anyway.
A once in a lifetime opportunity. It would be great, assuming you didn't get eaten.
So that's why you are currently in a paddock, holding a frozen lizard, waiting for one of your birds to glide down to your arm as you had been training them to. They were rustling around in the forested area of the paddock, until one of the two swooped out into the open area, gliding over to you and landing obediently on your arm and tearing the lizard from your clenched fist. It was larger than the natural Archaeopteryx and it's feathers were brighter, as the genetic engineers wanted it to appeal more to the public. The bird currently sitting on your arm was named Merlin, who had varying shades of blue and white plumage. He was generally the more humanised and obedient of the two, but Blitz (your other bird) generally is more popular with the public.
"Good boy Merlin, good boy." You praised, stroking his lightly feathered head. He screeched happily and gently knocked his head into yours before gliding down and trotting off.
"Blitz! Come!" You called, picking another lizard out of the bucket and clenching it in your fist before holding your arm out in anticipation for the bird. You heard a screech in the nearby trees, and soon after Blitz glided majestically from one of the tallest trees, his red, orange and yellow plumage shimmering in the light like a bird of fire. He landed on your arm, snatched the lizard and quickly left to scale one of the trees.
"Miss (L/n)!"
You spun around to see Claire Dearing entering your paddock, accompanied by the famous Owen Grady. You were slightly unnerved by her; she rarely visited the trainers, she was much more standoffish when running the park. Your mind raced, wondering if you were in some deep trouble.
"Yes. How can I help you ma'am?"
"As you know, the Velociraptor project was a failure and a success in many ways. We realise that the ferocity of raptors is a big problem while training them, but we have noticed varied levels of success on your project. The birds seem to respond well to your training, and we have decided to recruit Mr Grady to the project."
"Why? I've looked after these birds since they hatched. They probably won't take well to a new trainer."
"Ah, well that's what we want to see. As you know, Archaeopteryx is not the most dangerous creature in this park, so we wouldn't be putting any lives at risk. We want to see how versatile these birds really are."
Getting real tired of your shit Miss Dearing. Why couldn't you just be left with the birds. From what you'd heard, Owen Grady was obnoxious, overly confident, and generally an ass to be around.
