The weather was perfect. A big change from the Seattle coldness I was used to. The sunlight warmed my skin just enough, as I rested my head on the passenger door. Sights of big houses, surrounded by green lawns and trees, passed us by as my mom drove us to our new home.I looked over at my mother. Right here, with her driving in the hot, Pennsylvania air, I could almost envision a younger, better her. This was a fresh start for her. For both of us.
"We're here." She said, snapping me out of thought.
I sat up, taking in the sight in front of me.
A beautiful house sat in front of us. Nothing like our old one. This house was newer. More modernized. Two stories, painted a navy blue. And the best part? Our backyard consisted of just forest. "C'mon, lets start loading stuff in."
I stepped out the car, following her to the back. My arms wrapped around a box, bringing it out of the trunk.
I stopped for a second, taking in the view around us before bringing the box inside. We seemed to be the only house on this side of the street for miles. Across the street the houses carried on, lined up next to each other, like normal. My eyes scanned, taking in every detail.
I jumped in embarrassment as my eyes met ones from the boy in the house across the street. A younger girl stood beside him, and she whispered something, to which he shook his head to. I shone them the friendliest smile I could muster. His face remained bare, and the girl beside him walked off. He remained in place for a second, holding my gaze, before his arms raised, shutting the curtains harshly.
