Midori's P.O.V.

I moved away from Kazuma and looked to the side. A girl with a tail was staring at us.

"What brings you here, Hiyori?" Kazuma asked.

"Yukine was called here to do a purification ritual on someone named Midori." The girl answered.

I hid behind Kazuma when the girl walked toward me. She tilted her head in confusion.

"Sorry, Hiyori. This is Midori-chan. Veena-sama just got her yesterday. Midori-chan, say hello to Hiyori Iki. She's a friend of mine." Kazuma smiled.

I stood beside him and bowed. "I-It's nice to meet you, H-Hiyori."

She smiled.

~Kazuma's P.O.V.~

"Hurry! Veena-sama is getting worse!"

I stood off to the side, Veena-sama at my feet. Yukine, Kuraha, and Akiha stood around Midori, who looked terrified.

"This spirit of the deceased neglected to devote himself to the god, Vaisravana, and protect the great name bestowed upon her. Wipe away her impurities, and establish a bright, straight and correct soul without malicious intent. Use this purification ceremony to make this one pure-- Imprison!"

"We now cleanse this spirit which belongs to Vaisravana, and preserve the name bestowed upon it. With defilement expelled and avarice removed, it is a sincere, principled, just soul. With flesh pared, may she be cleansed."

The three Shinki drew boundaries, forming a triangle around Midori. She started screaming in agony.

"Whoever committed crimes against our Master, confess now or watch Midori die!" I snapped.

Midori's screams got louder, and she started turning into an Ayakashi. My heart started pounding, but I relaxed when Kazuha started crying.

"I'm so sorry! I stole a toy from a village store, and I asked Midori to keep it a secret! I kept stealing toys because I was bored, and I wanted something to play with! I'm so sorry, Veena-sama!" He cried.

Midori reverted back to her human spirit form, and the boundaries broke. Veena-sama stood up as the Blight vanished from her skin.

"Midori!" Kazuha yelled, running to her as she sat up.

Midori sat on her legs, motionless as Kazuha hugged her.

"I'm sorry, Midori-chan! I got scared! I shouldn't have asked you to keep my secret!" He croaked.

"Get off of me." Midori growled.

He gasped and backed away from her. Midori got to her feet, fixed her clothes, and ran away. I hesitated before I ran after her.

~Midori's P.O.V.~

"Midori-chan! Wait!"

I kept running. I didn't want Kazuma or any of the others to see me crying. I wasn't watching where I was going, so I slammed into someone.

"Watch it!" The man snapped.

"Y-Yato! Sorry! I was just trying to catch her!" Kazuma breathed when he stopped next to me. "Midori, this is Yato. He's Yukine's Master."

I got to my feet and looked at Yato. A sudden pang of undescribable pain hit me, and I groaned in agony.

"Kazuma! What happened? Is Midori hurt?" Veena-sama yelled a few seconds later, running up to us.

~Kazuma's P.O.V.~

"I don't know what happened. Midori, what's wrong?"

I moved to touch Midori's arm. She growled and smacked my hand away. I gasped when I saw her eyes.

"It's a possession!" Veena-sama yelled.

"How? Ayakashi can't possess Shinki like this!" I yelled.
