Good, Good, Gone
Chrissie
“Lila! Hey! Seriously wait up girl!” I try to get my friends attention while she runs bursting out the school’s front doors. Everyone gets excited to go home on a Monday.
“Hey Chrissie.” She stops suddenly and says, trying too hard to be sincere. She sounds almost annoyed.
“I was just wondering if you wanted to do anything after school today.”
“Uh. Ya I guess I could make some time…” She states with her head crooked to the side, her naturally stick straight, jet black hair hanging off her shoulder and her left eye partly closed. “Can we get out of the sun? I can’t see a thing, cuz it’s in my eyes.”
“Of course.” We both walk to her car and hop in. “So what do you want to do? I have a bit of studying to do, so I guess we can do that. I can’t believe Mr. Shoeman already has a test made up for us!” I know it’s stupid, but I’m sort of nervous to be talking to her. My relationship with Lila seems so different. I feel like she hasn’t forgiven me yet.
“Ah, sure I guess it wouldn’t hurt to study a bit. But I do think we need to see if Carter wants to tag along.”
“Ya, your right. I’ll go get him. Can you pull the car up to the front of the school, and we’ll see ya.” I get out of the car and go running in search for my brown haired bestie.
“OOO I want the Caramel Caribou flavor!” Carter screams as we walk into the local ice cream shop called Handles.
“Haha. Get what you guys want, but I’m going to get Vanilla.” Lila loves vanilla ice cream. If she could marry it, she would.
“That actually sounds good.” I walk up to the worker that takes the order and tell her what we want. After I ordered the worker gives us out frozen treats as I pay for them.
“Ok I think we should go to my house to study.” Carters house is the closest to where we are now, so we all agree.
As we pull into the driveway of Carters familiar brown two story house, I ask him and Lila, what they’d done all summer. “I mostly hung out at the beach and took photos and drew.” Carter loves to draw, so I wasn’t surprised by his answer. But I was a little shocked to hear Lila’s answer. “I mostly waited for you to get your sorry ass to my house.” At first I think she is joking around, but her facial expression tells me otherwise. She was dead serious.
“What’s your problem, Lila!?” While Carter screams at who I thought was my best friend, I just stare out into the empty sky. Its already almost seven o’clock so the stars will be out soon. I go into a daze and all I can think about is my mother. When I was little my nana passed away and I couldn’t stop crying about it, until my mom sat me down outside in the dewy nighttime grass and told me that she believed that when people die, they go into the sky and become a star. “That’s why there are so many of them,” she said. “and when I have to leave you, I will become one and even though you won’t be able to see me, I’ll be up there watching down on you and keeping you safe.
I awake suddenly to a previously occupied driveway, which is now empty other than me and Carter. He is just standing there with a red mark on his face. She slapped him. “What happened?”
“Oh. Um… I guess Lila and me aren’t friends anymore. Come on. Lets go inside.” Carter quickly opens the door to his house and silently tells me to be quiet. He doesn’t want his mom to know I’m here, because he knows I don’t need her asking me a series of questions on why I didn’t keep in touch over the summer and how me and my brother are doing.
We head to his room on the top floor, and go inside. I take a seat on his bed and he does too. “So why did you stick up for me like that?”
“Your my best friend, and I know you would do the same for me.” He is seriously the most amazing friend I’ve ever had.
“What is that?” I ask pointing at Carters shirt. “How did you manage to get ice cream down your whole front? Just change please. I don’t want to get it all over our textbooks. Oh. And also, did Lila seriously slap you?” He just cheekily smiles and teases me by seductively taking off his shirt. When we were little I used to have a pretty massive crush on him. He found out, and he teases me about it to this day. “Hey! I was only nine years old, and you were a cute kid okay!” I giggle and he tackles me to the ground with a thud. At that exact moment Lucy, Carter’s mom walks in. Carter still hasn’t put on another shirt.
“NOT IN MY HOUSE! Nope nope nope nope.” As Lucy grabs my arm forcefully I see Carters cheeks blush a bit and he pulls on a shirt. She drags me out of his room and sends me on my not so marry way home. It’s going to be fun explaining this evening to Tucker. Note the the sarcasm.
~~~~I’m Pretty sure this was my favorite chapter!!! :D you will see more of Lucy, and Lila too :) ~~~~
