MaryAnn
I don’t know how people do it. They can stare at something so huge and beautiful, but not know the true meaning of it.
Me, I can sit on this cliff and stare at the crashing waves below. The sparkling blue water that surrounds my house. The dolphins flipping in the air, sea monsters hunting for food. I even enjoy the sound of the bubbling the fishes make. In a faraway city, down below, is where the mermaids live.
Those disgusting, yet beautiful mermaids. We don’t get along with the mermaids. However, I don’t see why. They seem so kind, but my momma tells me every bone in their body is evil. I’m not quite sure why though. The mermaids seem to free willed! They just swim wherever they want and when they want to they can turn in their tail into human legs. Personally, I think it would be great to have a tail fin.
I’m not allowed to get far into the ocean or into the rocky areas. Mermaids are always there. But I’m here, on this cliff, I could simply jump-
“MaryAnn!”
I jumped back hearing momma’s voice. She has caught me again.
“Get back inside now!”
“Yes, mom…” I looked back once again and sighed. I was so close. I could have been swimming right now.
“Have you eaten lunch?!” my mom was right in my face when I shut the door. I just looked at her. “Thought so. We stocked up today. Cans are in the fridge.”
I walked across the wooden floor of the living room to the tan tile floor of the kitchen until I got to the stainless steel fridge. There were loads of cans in there, all of them labeled “Sangre” in bold black and red letters. I opened one up, making the thick liquid flow slowly into in my mouth. The taste exploding and making me realize that I was already hungry after a day of not having something to eat. I drained the one in my hand and took another one.
“Hungry aren’t you pumpkin?” My dad came in and laughed.
“Hey, Daddy!” I hugged him, “I see you got your fangs sharpened. They sure do sparkle.”
Daddy grinned and showed off his perfectly straight teeth, “it’s your turn tomorrow.”
“She was out there again Travis.” My momma always had to ruin it! “Almost jumped in again too.”
Daddy turned around, his eyes blazing red even more, “What have I told you about-“
“Just stop it! I get it!” I walked away, went up to my room, and straight into my closet.
I got some shorts and a blue bikini top. I went even deeper in my closet and took out some gold sandals and a blue towel. After that, I put my gold hair into a ponytail and jumped out my window.
Little did I know that my whole life was about to take a twist that sunny afternoon.
