We all sat nervously, waiting for the results. Behind the stands we sat watching a small TV running through the highlights of the day. I was in the middle of talking to a girl from Devon about her coach when the diving boy was on the TV. “-is the future of diving, Tom Daley, at 18 is one of the youngest Olympians, who was actually competing in Beijing at 14!” I looked at the Devon girl, who also looked very lovey-dovey. Damn, he was gorgeous. It cut to a video of Tom doing one of his dives, and it was miraculous. 10M up he did all these twists and jumps; and it was amazing! He was flawless, diving and his gorgeous face. “- and whoever the winner of this sprint-swim will be presented with the prize from none other than Tom Daley himself!” My attention flicked back to the screen. Okay, so I definitely won. I had to win. I had to meet this guy, he seemed so genuine and kind and hot, wow.
“And the results are in, would all 100m sprint competitors please stand poolside.” The tanoid said overhead, we all stood up, nervous about what was going to happen. I pulled my jogging bottoms over my costume, took off my swim cap and headed out to the edge of the pool to (hopefully) receive my gold medal, and maybe a check if I got “most promised athlete”. We all lined up behind the podium, anxiously awaiting the arrival of our guest. Suddenly, the crowd started yelling and screaming, as Tom Daley walked out smiling and waving. God, his smile would melt chocolate. I could already feel my cheeks flushing, he was just so cute.
“And in 3rd place, is Rosetta Milano from Rome,” said the presenter man. Rosetta stood forward waving and smiling, her brunette locks bouncing as she stepped onto the podium. She was slim and tanned, like the typical Italian. She took her medal and carried on waving. She was so pretty. Eurgh.
“In 2nd place is Anna Hensworth from Devon,” I smiled and clapped. She jumped onto her podium and started shouting and waving her arms around. She was so happy, her gold ringlets springing as she jumped. I laughed and carried on clapping.
“And in 1st place, winning the gold medal and £10,000,” the presenter paused for 'effect' which sent the crowd shouting and screaming to know, “Alright, alright! With only 3 seconds in between her and Anna, the winner of the 100m sprint, is...” Oh my god if he doesn't say my name I will cry. I will ball up in a little, tiny cradle and cry. I need that money, the fame and to at least talk to this guy, because if I don't now I will never get the nerve to. “Samantha King!” My heart dropped. My arms fell to my side and my mind went blank.
I had lost. It was all over.
I watched as the Samantha King stood up to my-I mean, her place on the podium. 1st place. She waved at the crowed, and smirked over at me. Her dark skin made her teeth look so white and straight; she knew she was pretty. All eyes were on her, and she loved every second of it. Who was I kidding? I wanted the attention and the love and the respect that I deserved.
“Wait,” the presenter said, “it seems we had made a mistake.” I looked up. The crowd fell silent in confusion. “First place goes to Charlie Willows from Bristol!” I could hear my mum go ballistic from the crowd, as all I could feel was a wave of relief wash over me. Samantha stepped down and gave me the dirtiest look, and I smiled back. Stepping onto the podium had never felt so good. I felt like I was stood on top of the world, like I belonged. I felt the whole crowd backing me, like they truly believed in me and what I was doing. I won.
“And here to present you with your medal and you're check, is none other than Tom Daley!” Everyone in the crowd stood up and screamed. Out walked the most beautiful human being I have every seen; tall, brunette with the most toned and magnificent muscles I think I have ever seen. He was flawless, especially in those speedos. I could already feel my cheeks burning as he walked over to me. As gracefully as I could, I bowed my head so that he could put the medal round my neck. Almost immediately I felt the weight of the medal around my neck, and relief washed over me. I looked up to be met with these gorgeous brown eyes framed with long dark eyelashes.
“Congratulation beautiful, you did great.” Tom smiled, flashing him his toothy grin. I felt my heart flutter slightly, and automatically smiled back like a total dork. He chuckled slightly, then stretched his hand out. I, like the idiot I am, grabbed it and shook it way too enthusiastically. He laughed and smiled at the many camera's now pointed at us.
“Smile babe, you'll be one of us soon.”
