Nynaeve sat quietly in front of the flickering fire, holding her hands up to its welcoming warmth. She stared into the flames, and an owl hoot overhead. Shaking her head, she shivered with a sudden chill. Leaning against the tree behind her, she closed her eyes for a moment, basking in its light. Pressing a hand to her forehead, she opened her eyes and averted her gaze from the flames. The landed on the sleeping bodies of Mat, Perrin, and Rand. Blood and Ashes, to think I had been scolding them just weeks from now. She thought, moving her eyes away with a frown. Tugging at her braid, her gaze fell on Egwene's resting shape. How can they still sleep? She wondered curiously, after all they had been through, they had to be at least a bit scared!

As she moved her eyes, they stopped at a shifting shadow; Lan. She tugged her braid again, clenching it tight in her fist. His deep voice drifted over to her, quiet. "You look confused, what troubles you?" Nynaeve glared at the shadow, and almost growled; "Nothing of your concerns" Shifting, she sat up straight. The warder shrugged, coming into the light of the fire and sitting across from her. Her heart skipped a beat as his ice blue eyes met hers.

"You know, you dont have to stay with us" Nynaeve gave her braid a harsh jerk. "And why would I do that?" She asked angrily. Lan looked hesitant, strange. "I understand you're not too fond of Aes Sedai...?" Nynaeve sniffed. "I'm only coming to..." She faltered, why was she coming along? Her simple answer of watching over Egwene and the men wouldn't be enough. Strange, how she thought of them as men now.

Lan kept staring at her with his piercing gaze. Letting go of her braid, she fiddled with her dress and demanded sharply. "Why are you asking anyways?" Was that amusement in his eyes? Burn him! The warder shook his head with a frown. "You obviously dont like it here, and I think Moiraine is only making it worst, not to mention Eqwene." Nynaeve glowered at Moiraine's still body. "Egwene is still a foolish girl, I'm sure she'll learn that becoming... becoming one of her is nonesense." Nynaeve muttered, but she didnt really believe herself.

She leaned back against the tree, looking up at its swishing tree branches as they swayed in the night breeze. She could almost see the night sky through the leaves. She found herself humming 'The Wind That Shakes The Willow' softly as she watched the limbs of the tree's, though she altered the song to her needs.

'My love is gone, carried away by the wind that shakes the willow,

And all the land is beaten hard, by the wind that shakes the willow,

But I will hold him close to me, in heart and dearest memory,

and with his strength to steel my soul, his love to warm my heart-strings,

and I will start, where we once sang, though cold wind shakes the willow

and I will start, where we once sang, though cold wind shakes the willow'

As she shifted her gaze from the tree's she noticed Lan had gone, probably to search the area.
