It was nearing the end of the working day, and I was currently in one of my intermittent office power naps that involved the proximity of my forehead and the desk to be at point blanc for at least a good hour.
I was in my happy dream world where anything was possible. I could have a good job in my dream world, and a social life, and a relationship. I could look at my tall dark haired unshaven self, and change him into someone better. Better looking, less socially awkward, and not so stupid and paranoid all the time.
You know what, those last two characteristics basically sum up the majority of my life so far. I've been living in a cave of drink and work for the last few years. Basically everything, has turned into absolute shit. I've cut myself off from all my friends and remaining family and buried all my thoughts in work. I can't even bare to think back to why the hell I did all the stupid stuff I did.
I strolled along a silver pathway, towards a huge citadel that gleamed in the sunlight. I felt a massive sense of happiness as I walked into the heart of it. I was stood on a shiny pavement, panning around. People smiled as they walked past me. I felt good.
The sun suddenly fell darker, everyone stopped walking and stood still. Cars and busses had suddenly halted. The sun continued to get darker and darker, until it was completely out. I could see people still standing still. The only light was coming from car headlights, which shone at a group of people, lighting up their blank, expressionless faces.
Everyone around me suddenly turned, and begun walking towards me. People got out of their cars and walked towards me, without even a slight change of expression. I backed against a wall of a building, that melted away as I placed my hand on it, like several hot pokers being placed onto a block of ice. The people kept walking, until one got close, and just collapsed at my feet. More and more people kept coming, and just fell, still expressionless, right before me, like there was some kind of deadly force field surrounding me. Wave after wave of people kept looking me right in the eye and just collapsing right next to me.
My hands rushed to my head, as a piercing buzz ripped right through my ears, and I fell.
I awoke. The intercom continued buzzing obnoxiously next to me, and yanked me fully away from my dream world as I quickly raised my head, and mashed the pad of buttons with my palm.
"Yes?" I droned into the microphone.
"Mr Goodwin, we need you down here now, it's a code green! An actual code green!" I immediately jolted out of my chair and rushed past my desk, knocking the contents of several boxes off of it. I looked down at them, sighed, and ran out.
The hallways were still continuing to drift me off every time I walked down them, with their snooty boring white shiny walls that looked as if they'd never been touched by the constantly passing flesh, blood and brain matter that was so often rushed through this way .
I made my way to the end of the corridor and made a swift left down a narrow stairwell that led me into an entrance to the testing lab. The emergency lights were flashing above my head, I was sensing something very bad.
I knocked on a small window on the door. There was no answer. I knocked again, a bloody human hand slapped against it and slid down. I peered through the glass.
"Oh....."
The lab inside was completely ruined, desks and chairs were upside down and slit open, and several slashed up scientists were lying on the ground. Suddenly my attention was aimed at a large creature on all fours, staring up at me from behind a stool on the ground. There were dread-like things flowing from its head and wafting around like an animal would aimlessly waft its tail. But this didn't look to me like any animal I'd ever seen. Its eyes were like two sharpened gems, peering into me. I pressed my face against the glass for a closer look.
