The darkness was beginning to envelope the island as I walked back to my treehouse. I placed my hand on a glowing purple flower and admired its astonishing beauty. I looked over my shoulder, left then right, and quickly pulled the flower from the stem. As I shoved it into my backpack, I began sprinting to my tree. Picking flowers was forbidden on Ignotis so I had to keep myself and the flower hidden.

My tree that i shared with many others, was over 300 feet tall and 200 feet wide. Covered in dirty, tangled vines was my hidden home.

I climbed in the hollow trunk and wrapped my hands around my rooms door handle. I shared the tree with over 200 people but only three others lived with me.

I waked into my room and looked around at the walls covered in grooves of which were filled with jars of flowers and books of all sorts. My bed was more of a hammock made of purple, blue, green, and yellow leaves weaved together in a checker pattern. I had painted small infinity sign on the ceiling above my bed, which gave me some good and some terrible memories from my childhood. A small window only about foot wide and tall sat near my bedside table covered with a thin sheet.

I lightly tossed my canvas bag onto my bed and closed the door, then walked quietly into the very small kitchen.

It was filled with many pots and jugs filled with herbs, water, many different meats and some safe mushrooms. I grabbed a bowl, a couple herbs, some wolf meat and a bit of water and sat it on the burning fire. I had begun stirring my supper when Kaleb walked in.

"Hey Taryn!" He said.

"Hey Kaleb. What are you doing home? Aren't you supposed to be out helping get rid of some creatures?"

"Yeah... I am but I decided to skip because I couldn't miss your birthday!" He smirked.

"How old are you now Taryn? Seventeen?"

I sighed, " Yes I'm seventeen. Not that big of a deal..."

"Whatever Taryn. You have to cheer up or you won't get your presents from Mila, Kyra, Ruby and I..."

I turned away from my soup or is it stew, I don't really know, and looked at him and saw that he had his arms behind his back most likely holding my gift or some twisted object. Who knows...

" Can I have my gift please?"

"Yep!" He replied,

" Here it is!"

He pulled his arms out from behind his back only to reveal a small box wrapped in a beautiful light purple paper, which happens to be my favourite color.

I reached my hands out for the gift. Right when he placed it in my rough hands, I began savagely tearing it open. He watched me with a small smile on his face. I lifted the lid off and inside was a small silver necklace. It had a blue bird bead in the center of the chain.

"It's beautiful." I whispered.

Kaleb waked over and helped me put it on. I just kept grinning and grinning.

I stood in front of the mirror and placed my hand upon the charm and vowed to never take it off.
