I felt the painful stinging sensation on my cheek before I realized that my father had slapped me across the face... again. I could tell that it would leave a nice hand-shaped mark on the left side of my face. "Stop making that god-awful noise!" my mother shouted before she too left a mark on my face. I realized that I was indeed making noises. The odd whining noise was coming from the back of my throat and in my chest. "I apologize, mother." I speak with a small voice."Don't speak unless we say you can speak!" father shouted just before he punched me in the mouth. this time I could feel my lip split and I could taste the blood as it filled my mouth. "Look Tom! She's bleeding all over the new rug!" mother screeched as she kicked me in the stomach. I fell onto the floor, on my side and my father kicked me again.
I don't remember how long it lasted before I heard something like a door being smashed in. It could have been seconds, minutes, maybe even hours. Time was weird when you're being beaten to a pulp. It was maybe ten seconds after that, that someone dragged my raging parents away from me. "We need a medic in here now!!" I heard an unfamiliar voice shout. The voice sounded so far away. I started to see black spots cloud my vision. "You were poison to this family Gwenwyn! POISON! I hope you die!" I heard mother shout just before she was finally dragged out of the house. After that, I finally let the darkness take me.I jump as I wake up from that nightmare. I haven't dreamt of that day in years. That night was the night that I decided that I wanted to quit being the weak little mouse that I was. I wanted to become strong, so I changed almost everything about myself. Everything including my style, my attitude, even my personality. The one thing I didn't change is my standards. Those won't ever change. I made a vow to myself that night to never to let myself be treated like that in anyway, ever again. I refuse to let it happen.
I finally get out of bed when I smell the scent of eggs, bacon, and toast float up the stairs. "Gwen, breakfast is almost ready!" Clare yelled up the stairs. "I'll be down in five minutes!" I shouted back. I grabbed the first pair of jeans out of my dresser that I could get my hands on and a tank-top to match. I quickly picked up my boots and my bag and headed down the stairs.
"Are you ready for your first day of school as a senior?" Tony, Clare's husband, asked when he saw me enter the kitchen. "No, I'm totally unprepared for everything." I answer with loads of sarcasm. Clare burst into fits of giggles when that response left my mouth. I sat down and I ate the wonderful breakfast that Clare prepared for me while Tony surfed through Facebook and Clare continued to giggle quietly while rubbing her very pregnant belly. "Okay guys, I gotta get going. I'll see you after school." I say as I run to grab my leather jacket from the coat closet next to the door. I pull my boots on after my jacket then put on my backpack. "I'll see ya later. Love you guys!" I shout as I grab my keys from the table next to the door. "Love you too darling! Make good choices!" Tony shouts just before I close the door. I shake my head at that. "Haha, never." I say to myself as I hop into my red '67 Chevy Impala and made my way to my first day in Hell... school... I meant school.

Have you ever woken up and not remembered where you are? Well that's how I woke up this morning. It too me a few seconds to remember that we moved to this place a few days ago. We moved to Sommerton, California from New York City because my dad found a great job opportunity. We are all very supportive of him.I finally get out of bed when my mom shouts at me from down the hall. "Leo, it's time to get ready for school." is what she says. "Alright, I'll be out in just a moment." I respond as I hear her walk back towards the kitchen. I pull on a dark blue pair of jeans. I grab a light gray collared shirt and a darker gray sweater to wear over that. I walk out of my room and walk down the hall, into the small kitchen to greet my family. "Mommy, Leo's here!" My little brother Chris shouts. "What's up squirt? Are you ready to start school?" I ask him. He's starting kindergarten this year. "I'm nervous, Leo." He says. "What if nobody likes me?" Chris asks with a nervous tone in his voice. "Don't worry, kiddo. You'll make friends just like that." I say with a snap of my fingers.
He smiles at me before he hugs me around my knees. "Alright squirt, are you ready to go?" I ask him. "Yup." He says as he grabs his things. He follows me as I walk to the door to slip on my shoes and grab my car keys. "Okay, let's get going then." I say as I pull the strap of my messenger bag over my head. I'm so excited for today... Not.
